Do I have to start worrying about the Marines???

U.S. officials said Monday that President Obama will nominate Marine Gen. Joseph Dunford Jr. as the next chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Mostly a staff weenie, but Gen Mattis was pleased with his handling of 5th Marines in the invasion of Iraq.

" He next served in the 1st Marine Division where he was assigned to command the 5th Marine Regiment, then as the division's chief of staff and assistant commander. During this time, he served 22 months in Iraq.[8] During his command of RCT-5 in the 2003 invasion of Iraq, he earned the nickname "Fighting Joe" under James Mattis.[9]"

His ribbons aren't anything to brag about, they are all "I was there" stuff, not even an expert shooter badge.
On the other hand, that might not be a bad thing since CJCS IS essentially a political and administrative job and that is where his skills seem to lie.

Maybe OBummer picked him because he was the only one who pledged that he would fire on citizens if ordered so.

Some career military brass have become lefties!  I know of one I served with that actively campaigned for the current Asshat in Chief!

Very true. We like to think of the military as void of politics. However the exact opposite is true at the higher levels. Just look at the military higher ups who went on to political careers. Ulysses S. Grant,  Dwight D. Eisenhower, Colin Powell, and Wesley Clark all come to mind.

Another of the many reasons I got out of active service.  The incessant ass kissing was already quite prevalent in the late 70's.  Easily could have made Master Chief but the path to get there was not one I was willing to endure.
