I talked to TW about 6 months ago and he's doing fine. I will probably see him again when I get back to FL.

Deepwater please tell him I said hello.  On the ham radio side, if you are still on the radio, we need to pick a frequency and try to have a QSO.  Also, I'm hoping to organize a DXpedition to Peleliu Sept 2019 to commemorate the battle there.  I'm needing to go into some of those DXpedition organizations and start planning.  If you've ever been to Palau in your traveling and have some any hints please let me know.

Thanks,
Ken

I texted him to let him know you all missed him and worried. he says hello to all. I will be seeing him in August, Sept... and will try to get him back to the dark side.

I have a list going.  Want to get on it?  I have a lot to do and I'm hoping we get bought out in a couple of years so I can afford going.  It's a gonna be hot that time of year.  I remember my dad saying 115 plus so generators and portable A/C is a must.

I was thinking about transmitting from a boat starting to coincided with the first shelling and then have each of the beaches (orange beach, white beach, etc.) active on the first few days then retreat inland to the museum area if they'll have us.

So the plan is to have a list of contact areas on Peleliu...at least that's my plan.  From each of the beaches when they were active, from the Jap HQ, the airfield, the radio hut, etc.

For me, I'd especially like to transmit from the Wildcat Bowl where they wiped up the remaining Japs.  My dad gave me about 12-15 minutes of WWII stories...that's about all I got for 50 years.  One of the stories was them shooting artillery shells when they heard the Jap soldiers dragging water canteens to the pond to bring back to the cave...when they lit them up they lit them up.

He was in on Shuri Castle/Naha in Okinawa and said Peleliu was by far the worst battle.

So...I'm hoping that in the next few years I can generate enough interest that people will want to have a contact from the various locations to keep the thing active and then hopefully before then contact some locals that will want to keep it going.

Read "With the Old Breed" by E.B. Sledge, He was at Peleliu, and Okinawa.
Tells it from the grunts eye perspective.
His is also one of the primary views for the Tom Hanks series "The Pacific" which was filmed there.

Deep,

I'm fifty miles west of Boston but I've got too much on my plate to visit.  Enjoy your tour but get out of Boston soonest...  The coast of Maine is well worth your efforts.  I'd avoid SE NH as well.  Too many Massholes..

Next time, friend!

Pay no attention to the Michigander with the attitude.
The Portsmouth NH Kittery Me area area nice . If you didn't mind Jamaica Plain you will love Portsmouth.
Ft. Constitution on Great Common Island (New Castle) located at the Coast Guard station is free. It's where the arms were stolen the recovery of which started open fighting in Lexington/Concord. Across the harbor in Me is Ft McClary, built during the French and Indian wars. There are other sites, Farnsworth Battery, Odiorne State Park, and Ft. Foster that date from the turn of the century to WWII. Prescott Park, and Strawberry Banke are in downtown Portsmouth and both well worth visiting.
