American Marksman

Has anyone here shot in the American Marksman competition?

I'm trying to register, but having issues with their website.  If I can get in, I plan to, but not sure if they will let me  >:(

I did back about the 3rd week the competition opened.   I registered in late January, I think, and had no problems.   My story's over at this thread, including a breakdown of how fast you have to shoot.  http://www.downrange.tv/forum/index.php?topic=31189.msg306402#msg306402

I've dropped to about 30th in the SE region, but that's still in the middle of the pack.  I'm not going to reshoot.  Partly because I don't want to take the effort and partly because I might be technically disqualified for scoring in the top 10% of GSSF matches in the last year.   If I get selected for regionals great, if not, okay too.

Sorry about forgetting Alf!

Issues worked out - Better online security than Hillary has ever used.

Shot Today.  I didn't do as well as I hoped, but am in the running with both pistol and rifle.  Didn't do as well as Alf, and I asked for an asterisk with rifle - I am the only person to shoot in Iowa with a bolt action!

Monday is last day to shoot, and registration cut off was last week, so looks good at this point.

Well Alf, are you going to Regionals?  Did you find out what your Glock shooting does to your status?

I received an email the other day that I qualified as well.  Didn't do as well as I would have hoped, but I did not practice at all, and I did everything wrong in preparation on the day I shot - Drank three cups of coffee for breakfast, Mountain Dew during the day, skipped a meal, let my stress level rise a couple times, got a late start and was delayed during the day, arrived late, rushed in, and shot without focusing myself.  All of that in mind, I did better than expected.

Our Regional is late August in Grand Island, NE.  I have until August 12 to decide and register for the weekend.

I got the invite, too.  I'm not sure what, if any, cutoff was used.  Did we just all get invited

I'm debating.  $99.    SE region is July 23/24.  Nice thing is it's at the new, deluxe Taledaga CMP range.   July 8th is the cutoff.

They invited the top "X" many.  Not sure how deep they went.  I have seen or read different numbers, and the employees at the range gave me a number lower than I remember reading.  I know they invited quite deep, but I was far from any number quoted - At least with pistol I was.  Rifle was fun, and I think I am going to practice rapid, accurate fire with the bolt action  :o

$99 isn't the spendy part.  There are also a couple nights in a motel for those of us who don't live close, and the information states that all food and refreshment must be bought at the range.  However, we get to shoot their toys, with their ammunition.

Been see-sawing back and forth on this.

As of this week, I've decided not to go.

1)  Technically, because of my GSSF scores, I'm not an amateur.
2)  I don't want to take a month off of revolver practice to prepare
3)  I was only middle of the field in the SE.  Probably much lower of those invited.  And I doubt if I'd place much higher at regionals.
