Explodes the myth of the sacred veteran, yeah they did one good thing, that doesn't mean they are good people.
This is what pisses me off about most of these people you just mentioned. They become famous for one thing that has nothing to do with most everything else they represent for all the years that follow. For Glenn it was a 3 orbit Mercury ride. Then a publicity stunt ride on the shuttle decades later, to boost it's failing economic image that was faltering with the public.
With McCain it was his Vietnam POW status. And the list goes on. These guys milk these moments they were in the headlines back when dinosaurs roamed the planet, for the rest of there careers. Everyone thinks because of one single moment that happened decades ago, everything they do will have this wonderful stigma attached to it. It's all pure bull$h!t.
The whole Gabby Giffords / Mark Kelly gun control fiasco comes to mind. Once again liberals trying to milk a tragedy to their political advantage. Poor Giffords got shot by some nut case. Then her astronaut, "hero" husband rides in on his white horse to help her, "rid the planet of evil military assault weapons that have no place in our society". Except they pathetically parade Gifford's in front of the cameras making her speak, so people can see what damage was done to her, in order to push their bull$h!t anti gun agenda.
Not much different than what both Glenn and McCain did, or are still doing. McCain said he would retire after his last term after he beat J.D. Hayworth. He still wants to stay around. They refuse to give up power once they achieve it. McCain should have been gone years ago. He exemplifies what's wrong with the current Republican Party. I hope he rides out on the first wave of slop from Trump "draining the swamp".
