In Contrast to Steel Challenge - A Game for Young Farts
« on: December 19, 2020, 08:55:22 PM »
Watching two hours of Biathlon tonight!  One hour each of men's and women's.

I have always known that I am not a runner, and never have been.  But, for a while I simulated biathlon to improve both fitness and shooting.  We had a NordicTrak for many years, and I had a perfect ten meter range in our family room.  I struggled to do half an hour on that machine at an average pace, even when watching action movies.  But, play the biathlon game, and I could put twice the time and triple the distance on that thing.

I read an article on biathlon several years ago.  The coaches said that it takes many physical factors that can't be developed through training.  These factors can only be honed.  However, they can teach almost anyone to shoot.  So, they take world class runners, put them on skis, and teach them to shoot.

Not interested until they replace ski's with Ski Doo's   ;D
Actually I used to do that, I had a trail through the woods with targets hung.    ;D

I think a summer version would interesting.  Run along the beach, shoot from sand dunes...

Sort of a version of beach volley ball.

Great idea.  Summer biathlon.

How about beaches and mountains....heck, don't forget the plains states too.

I believe the do train in the non-snow seasons with in-line skates.

Still "on the beach" has an appeal.  Snow, and cold temps, just don't do it for me.

They use something like an inline skate.  The ones I have seen are three or four feet long with inline skate wheels.  The design allows them the feel of a ski, and restrict them like a ski would.

On the plus side, in snow you don't have to worry about the snake in that earlier post.   ;D
