The tax man cometh

 :'( :o >:(

Always the worst day of the year.

Yeah, I pay quarterly and monthly for payroll taxes, but today always feels bad.

Extension filed Monday.
Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom.
It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves.

you still have to pay, or get a late penalty.   I give them enough, i dont want to give them more.

Here in Kentucky, we have been given an extension until November 3rd due the flooding that has happened here so I don't need to sweat it ,,,,,yet!

Recent article about how the government is trying to move away for sending or receiving paper checks. My 4/15 check and my quarterly payments are some of the few I write each year.  I signed up for and used the new Electronic Federal Tax Payment System this year.  Somewhat confusing as there are actually two systems.  A Login.gov gateway which once you are logged in to, it then passes you to the login for the actual agency, IRS, you’re trying to pay.  Two different IDs and two different passwords plus a PIN, plus a second layer authentication.

I want to mail them the check... preferably it takes the usps as long as possible to get there( only mail 100% sure to get there with in a day)

In 1990 we filed for an extension. We were farming, so tax day comes earlier than April 15th. Not a big deal, except in July of 1989 we lost our house to a fire. Lost almost everything we had.  Thinking that it would help ease the stress as we put our lives back together that year, half way through I wished we had just done the actual filing. How do you make sure that there are no gaps in your income and expense for the first seven months of the year? You gather everything you need to do the regular return!

We paid the extension fee, we paid the estimated tax due, in August we filed our actual return, we received a refund large enough that we were almost penalized for overpaying*.

* This was the point I learned that if you overpay and get too large a refund, you are penalized. Apparently, the government counts on only refunding a small percentage, and they have already made plans for the excess money they took from you.

I still haven't rescheduled the appointment with my tax guy I missed in March, 2021. I should probably get right on that. In the next few years at least. I have to remember to file my Forms W-2 G, Certain Gambling Winnings, because the IRS isn't going to forget about them.
