Laser pointer for XD-40 sub compact
« on: December 23, 2008, 04:27:11 PM »
I have been told by a local sporting goods dealer that he doesn't recommend the Lasermax LMS-3XD internal laser because he has a strong aversion to replacing any original equipment with aftermarket products that are not designed to perform the exact function as the original.  Anyone with any experience with this laser pointer?  Thanks very much.

So other than SELLING, what are his qualifications ? That's his opinion and is worth what you paid for it.
Opinions are like A holes etc.., some of the most gun ignorant people I know have been gun store employees.

I'm not interested in bashing him, he just gave me his opinion.  I'm looking for someone who has actually put the internal laser pointer on their XD & how they like it.  (things like performance, accuracy, etc.).  The guy at the gun shop actually has a LOT of qualifications other than selling--He's a certifiable gun nut!!  (and he's saved me money on more than one occasion when he could have tried to gouge me!)

Thanks for any input!!

Not bashing him in particular, but some of the dumbest things I've heard about guns came from gun store employees and owners. The Lasermax was DESIGNED specifically to serve that purpose, it's not like you are gluing a cat toy into your pistol.
You did not specify what TYPE of pistol, so I will point out that AS DESIGNED for the 1911 all the guide rod does is keep the spring straight and that can be done with a short stick, it takes no stress strain or force.
Using your dealers reasoning, extended guide rods, beavertails, and ambi controls are all verboten, as that's not how John Browning designed it.
Just use your own judgment, if you had doubts enough to ask for a second opinion here then your not going to go to far wrong.

Let me start this string over:  As stated in my original subject line, my pistol is an XD-40 sub compact.  Any first hand reports on using a Lasermax LMS-3XD internal laser, as far as consistent pointing accuracy after repeated firings, adverse effects on the pistol's operation, etc.?  Laserlyte makes one that hangs off the accessory rail for about half the money, but would be bulky & probably have to have a custom built holster.
