GUNS resembling military weapons and designed to appeal to young men will be banned from being imported into Australia.

The Federal Government will change import regulations to tighten controls on firearms that have a "military-style appearance".

Home Affairs Minister Bob Debus said handguns and paintball markers resembling guns with fully automatic firing capabilities were already subject to higher import controls.

"Manufacturers have now begun developing firearms that look more like machine guns in an attempt to appeal to a younger market," he said.

"These firearms could cause unnecessary fear and apprehension in the community, which is why the regulation has been extended to cover these new types of weapons."

Is this a good idea? Tell us below

There will also be stricter import controls on magazines for fully automatic firearms.

Mr Debus said that there was "absolutely no reason" for anyone to own a shotgun that looked like a semi-automatic rifle.

"If someone has a legitimate use for a shotgun then it should look like a shotgun and not a military assault weapon used by soldiers," he said.

"We don't want people enticed into buying these firearms when the only reason to own one is for show."

Mr Debus said the new controls had been introduced after consultation with the firearms sector and relevant government agencies.

The new regulations will make it easier for museums such as the Australian War Memorial to import items for temporary exhibition. Permits may also be granted to governments, police and film productions.

Customs officials will be provided with a template of the real firearms. If the imports resemble real military firearms, they will be destroyed.

What about "OLD" men.   Can guns that appeal to "older" men still be imported?

What foolishness!   Sorry for you Aussie's.   Hoping/fighting that we don't go any further down the same road here.

Standing by for the slew of Jan 20th Executive Orders.

I believe he is ready to ban importation of foreign ammo and standard cap. mags made in a foreign country...all guns from foreign countries might be next (certainly not out of the question).

I think I heard about ammo and mags here but the gun thing is JMNSHO.

Philw, what the heck is up with the Red Pen ban down your way?

TEACHERS have been told to stop marking schoolchildren's work with red pen because it is an "aggressive" colour.

Queensland's Deputy Opposition Leader Mark McArdle told parliament today that teachers were being advised to reconsider their pen choice because it may offend children.

hahahaha   ahhh yea  Queensland.......

I just about fell off my chair laughing when I read that a while a go..
I swear that the world must get dumber and dumber every day......   Shit its a wonder they havent done away with the elephant, lion and giraffe stamps when primary school kids do good work as it promotes social injustice towards endagered animals. No wonder there is no whale stickers.

Actually it was in a report done by phycologists or others along that line  dug up by the opposition who failed to mention that it was for teachers dealing with Intellectually and unstable students who had problems handling criticism.
Why so much time is wasted on pollies trying to find something to grandstand over is beyond me, if they would just get on with the real job i think a lot more of us would be much happier.

personally I think there are a lot of people here that need to take a big cup of Harden The f*k Up

see this Vid as my recommendation
