Police continue to monitor the status of a victim who was critically injured in Saturday's deadly shooting at a Southeast Wichita home. Two people were killed, while a third person remains in extremely critical condition.
A total of nine people were shot at a home in the 2900 block of East Dunham, near 31st South and Hillside. Police got the call shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday.
if  Deputy Police Chief Robert Lee said Saturday night that a family was hosting a funeral wake for someone who had recently passed away. Someone either fired shots from the street or walked up to the house and pointed a gun inside.
When officers entered the home, they found one victim dead and soon discovered there were eight other victims. One of those other victims also died from their injuries. Lee says one person was taken from the scene in critical condition.
That third victim was discovered with a gunshot to the chest and was rushed to a local hospital in extremely critical condition.
Two other victims were found at the scene with minor injuries and dispatchers say four more victims arrived at nearby hospitals in private vehicles about 15-20 minutes after the event.
The only detail known about a possible suspect is that a white vehicle was seen speeding away from the scene westbound on Dunham St.
Lee says they have not yet made a determination on how many suspects they may be looking for.
Investigators had some trouble communicating with many of the people at the scene because they do not speak English. Officers had earlier asked for Laotian translators to come to the scene.
More information about the deadly incident is expected to be released at the department's daily media briefing Monday morning.
