This is scary stuff. Leaving aside the obvious political agenda, have these people not thought this thing through? (Forget I said that).
What if I am some sort of anti-choice or anti-animal testing terrorist fanatic looking for a doctor, or reasearcher to make an example of, wouldn't I be smart to look at this list before choosing a target? Likewise the average stalker/rapist/abusive ex, wouldn't I want to know if she could defend herself? Its not just gunowners, but verifiable nongunowners that are at risk.
More than that, it seems more likely to put more guns into the hands of criminals. If I were a computer savy felon who wanted a gun and could get a list of CCW folks; I'd break into their cars at their work, knowing that most of us leave the gun in the glove box while at work.
If there's a worse idea, short of invading Iraq, or leting your daughter watch or listen to anything produced by the Spears sisters, I've yet to hear it. Coming From a professor of American political history this is saying a lot.
