URGENT ! LATE NOTICE . I'm sorry for that. Wish I had seen it coming...

Ok I am reviving an old thread here...Just turned the TV on and saw that on the History International channel now 8pm Eastern is showing BOONE AND CROCKET - HUNTER HEROS. It is being repeated at Midnite tonite. Don't miss it if you haven't seen it. This is the third show the history channel produced on the frontiersmen of the 18th and 19th centuries. It is a wonderful 2 hours of history.

Tom, this is a show that has aired on THC a number of times - one show about both men. A decent history, told through reenactments, covers first Boone, then Crockett from their births through deaths. Both had hard lives. Among other things, Boone lost 2 sons to Indian attacks, one was tortured to death. Crockett was beaten as a kid and sold into an apprenticeship at 12. They also presented the 1 account from a Mexican general about Crockett surviving the Alamo, only to be cut down as a POW at Santa Ana's orders.

Nice tie into each other - they talk about the confusion created when Fess Parker played Crockett for the Disney movies, then went on to play Daniel Boone on TV for 5 seasons.

Caught parts of it ... Got home from work late and saw the end of one airing, and was going to watch the late one but fell asleep on the couch  :-[

What I saw was very interesting.  One thing I like about these shows on the History Channel is that they are well done, well researched, and they give another insight as you read biographies on the subjects.  Have to try and catch it next time around.
If I appear taller than other men it is because I am standing on the shoulders of others.

I've always thought Boone suffered the "coolest" (?) death of any famous American. Broke his neck breaking horses at 80.
He put on years, he never "got old ".
