Another thought about concealed versus open carry is convenience. Walking around with your gun belt on like Matt Dillon your pistol may be handy to get at, but it's in the way for everything else, it bangs against things you walk past, I have broken grips because the ax handle hit it while I was splitting kindling, and the gun belt interferes with getting in your pockets.
