Colt Umarex .22 Rifle Failures
« on: December 30, 2009, 07:14:55 AM »
Just thought I would pass this along guys. I picked this up from another forum. It appears that several Colt Umarex .22 L.R. rifles are experiencing breakage in much the same areas. The owner of the rifle pictured said it happened in less than 100 rounds. He also commented that Umarex / Walther said it would be minimum of 90 days "before they could get another lower receiver from Germany". If that's true I would find it unacceptable. A failure of that magnitude in such a short period of time should result in them sending an immediate replacement. These guns are not that costly.

Mel and I came close to buying one of these because they are a great looking, inexpensive weapon. I'll pass now. There is something drastically wrong for a lower to crack like that. Especially with a .22 rimfire upper sitting on top of it, with less than 100 rounds down the pipe.  Bill T.

I would be interested to know what is causing it? I've never seen a AR-15 lower fail like that, even with the larger calibers. That shouldn't be happening on rimfire that is close to $600.00 out the door.  Bill T.

Looking at the photo's it looks like the set up does not use a buffer assembly and the aluminum is cracking from the bolt hitting where the buffer would normally be.

It just can't handle the awesome power of the .22.  :)

That's a pretty expensive let down when you can get a .22 for under a hundred bucks that'll last a lifetime.  :(  Saga of the AR.

Bill, if you want a.22 AR try one of these Tactical Solutionsfrom this guy.  He is great to do bussiness with,  I have the M-4 style and love it  They come with about a 27 round magazine or you can get 15 round magazines that are the size of GI 20 rounders.

I was thinking very hard about buying one of those.  I honestly can't see a lower breaking like that unless it was abused, but stranger things have happend.
I always break all the clay pigeons,  some times its even with lead.

I wonder what kind of recycled crap they're made of.
