When I lived in Illinois you needed the dreaded F.O.I.D. Card, but D.U.I. never entered into the picture. That was in the 80's. I don't know if that would prevent you from getting one today.   Bill T.

I think if you are over the limit, you should lose your driving privalages forever.

I know a guy that has had 17 DUIs, I also know a guy that got 3 in two weeks.

I know a guy that has had 17 DUIs, I also know a guy that got 3 in two weeks.

The reason they still were driving is a perfect example of the total hypocrisy of the system we have created. The drunk driver represents the biggest cash cow in traffic court today. Most are well covered by insurance, have good paying jobs, own homes and businesses, and have assets. Unlike the typical, hard core intravenous drug user who is usually destitute and penniless except for what he or she can steal. Cities along with their court systems are no different than any other business in that they, "go where the money is".

A couple of years back I got nailed at 4:00 AM by a red light camera on the way to work. I went to "Traffic School" so it wouldn't count any points against my license. There were about 25 people in "the class". The "teacher" asked for a show of hands as to how many were there for any type of D.U.I. infraction. About 9 people raised their hands. He then asked how much they paid thus far in fines, court costs, "schooling", and related expenses. All commented they were well into 4 digits. A young girl said she had to use a cash advance on her credit card to help pay for it all. One guy had mentioned he had paid well over $2,000.00 so far, and he was driving his motorcycle. He was older and had an expensive, tricked out custom Harley Davidson. $$$$$$$$ !

Common sense would dictate if someone was a habitual drunk driver with 17 D.U.I. arrests, complete, permanent, revocation of his license would be totally in order. One problem with that thinking, they, (the court system), wouldn't be able to tap his wallet anymore for fines and all of the other goodies they so love to nail the drunk driver with, if they forced him to take cabs and ride the bus. Look who keeps their license with all of these mega arrests. Most likely they have good paying jobs or businesses and can afford all of the lawyer fees, fines, "schooling", and everything else they can possibly reach into his pockets for.

Remember, this is all pure profit cash money we are talking about. All the city and police have to "produce" to "earn" it is paperwork, and a few minutes of keystrokes on a computer. It is a bonanza for them and they know it. The citizens cry about the horrible carnage, while they could care less. Bag up the bodies, tow away the wreck, hose off the street, and they're good to go. It is one of the biggest, if not the biggest hypocrisies in law enforcement today, and it will never change.  Bill T.

Very powerful, and sobering. Literally. I did notice that much of that was European. They take drunk driving much more seriously than here in America.

that actually was here in Australia   I remember ALL of those adds   was played  after 8PM  at Night  as it did also get a few complaints

where it is .05   for BAC  anything over that and instant loss of licence  and a court case  where  repeat offenders can also get Goal Time

unfortunately  people STILL do NOT take notice

here are a few more adds

yes this one is a real add that Mark Chopper Reid did

Sorry M'ett    I know this one will get you

Those are the nights that you want to go home sick. You just wish your shift would end. No other officers will come in to help. They do not want to deal with it. To much baggage. You sit parents down and tell them the bad news, and mom will more than likely kick your a@@ because her baby is not dead. Dealing with the drunk is the easy part. Got a Guy a few years ago for his 24th dui. It was one month before the state of Ohio changed the law so that we could go back further, so I could only charge him with his 4th,  he did not get much just a slap on the wrist. I have no compassion for drunks now. I read a article about a police officer in Nevada that responded to a fatal crash involving a drunk driver. He did not recognize the mini van that was hit. The drunk was out looking at the damage to his vehicle. Yea the mini van was his sister inlaws. His wife, daughter, son, and sister inlaw did not survive. His neice was the only suvivor.

You know what gets me. Is people that take their kids into bars in strollers (under a year old). Yes I said strollers. I have seen people at 6 a.m. waiting with their kids outside of a bar for it to open. That may be part of the problem. Some kids think that it is the norm to live in bars. They can cuss me up one side and down the other and tell me that I am taking food out of their kids mouth by citing them for DUI. I did not make the choice to sit in a bar 7 days a week and drink. They should feed their kids first and then drink. Not the other way around.

Sorry about the rant. Had to get that off my chest.

Isn't .05 one drink or less?
""It may be laid down as a primary position, and the basis of our system, that every Citizen who enjoys the protection of a free Government, owes not only a proportion of his property, but even his personal services to the defence of it, and consequently that the Citizens of America (with a few legal and official exceptions) from 18 to 50 Years of Age should be borne on the Militia Rolls, provided with uniform Arms, and so far accustomed to the use of them, that the Total strength of the Country might be called forth at a Short Notice on any very interesting Emergency." - George Washington.  A few years ago, We had a case here where a woman ran into a toll both on the highway at 7:30 in the morning, she was so drunk she fell out of the car, she had just dropped her kids off at day care and was on her way to work.

a big Depends  on what you are drinking firstly  here we talk "Standard" drink  Eplained here

More info on this Here

The answer to this question varies among individuals because there are many factors that affect Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) such as what you drink, how much you weigh, your gender, the state of your liver and even how fit you are.

As a general rule to stay under .05:

Men can consume two standard drinks in the first hour and one drink each following hour.
Women can consume only one standard drink in the first hour and then one drink each following hour.
One of the best ways that individuals can determine how they respond to alcohol is to use the coin-operated breath testers on licensed premises.

As I have mentioned before all these adverts are shocking however I maintain that they are of limited worth. The people that take notice are those that will naturally drive carefully. Those who are 10ft tall and bullet proof will ignore.
Its like smoking, who here smokes still and ignores the lovelly adverts that show tar being poured from lungs and arteries?
I do!

If the adverts worked I wouldnt have come accross this story tonight/day
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/five-young-men-killed-in-high-speed-crash/story-e6frf7jo-1225820452302
The driver was a previous speeding offender who was not supposed to have more than one passenger.
