Big, Heavy, Complicated and OLD TECHNOLOGY.  Then on top of that most of them are 2x as much as a functional poly frame.  I at this time in life can't afford a gun of the day.  I have to settle for what I have. :(

Why fix what aint broken?  the basic mouser claw extractor was 1st put in to production in 1892.  it over 100 years old, yet you will still see it used on the most modern of bolt actions, with very little changes.  Some countrys in africa, require it on bolt action rilfes to this day. 

as far as twice as much? you can buy a RIA for less then $500 out the door.  Thats about what it costs for a glock.
I always break all the clay pigeons,  some times its even with lead.

M1 Garand is a great gun also.. M1a is just the update.  AR is the glock of the rifle world.

It's about the most dependable, most accurate out of the box 1911 I have ever encountered. It's the only 1911 I have ever trusted for everyday carry. I've got over 1500 rounds through mine and can report it has been 100%.
I put Hogue grips because I don't like smooth wood grips, I put Yellow paint on the front sight because it has GI sights, and I put an extended Safety on it because I wanted to try one out. (I'm leaving it on to, much easier to work. )
And I still have less than $400 into it.

I live 30 min from Rock Island and the Rock Island Armory.  I think people would kill me if I had something stamped with such a well known and promenant name in our area with something made in the PHILIPPINES.

 Well, not to be an A hole about it, but if you let your neighbors prejudices choose your guns then feel free to pay double to nearly 10 times as much for guns that will not do anything this one won't.
Armscor bought the old Colt machinery and hired some Colt engineers to set up the production line and every part on it is made to USGI spec. My next centerfire pistol purchase  (4th place in the I need to get list ) is the wide body version.
