Yes, agreed........and that disproves my previous statement how?

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you, but you seem argumentative to the point that people who should know better are too lazy to care about finding out different.
Peg, I'm probably the one not understanding you - my apologies.  If I sound grumpy, I am, I'm home with a bad head cold so my attention span is that of a gnat (assuming they have a short attention span).

Maybe we were thinking more alike, but writing it from different standpoints...or something like that.
I wasn't berating the clerk, in and of itself, just that particular 'type' of people in society. Your assessment is right, it's the old "You can lead a horse to water" thing.......it just gets to me sometimes that there are so many 'horses' in society that ain't thirsty.

No worries.........it's been an off few weeks for me too. I know I have not been my normal self either (on the grumpy side at times). Doctor has me on a new high blood pressure medication and it has made me moody. Just ask my wife.

I'll assume she was referring to the CCW as a "privilege" in your state.

Is Iowa a shall issue or may issue state?

Our local county clourthouse works late one day a week and Saturdays for those of us who find it tough to get out work during the work day.

Iowa is "may issue," and the Sheriff can pull your permit for any whim he may have.  He doesn't need any reason except he wants to.  There are actually Sheriffs in Iowa that will not issue to anyone without court paperwork stating it is a safety issue.
If I appear taller than other men it is because I am standing on the shoulders of others.

Growing up in PA it was the same way.

The local sheriff claimed no one need to carry a firearm in his county.
He then failed to explain why he issued them to friends and political cronies.

They changed the law in PA to shall issue and cleared up that mess.

And just think, a National CCW Law failed by three votes.....

Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."

To me this isn't about politics as much as bureacrats. I don't know if licensing bureaus hire the lazy, surly and power hungy, or if they just put something in the water. The thing is this. It will get worse. In Fl., the state has, in the past decade, made great strides in making the DMV more "user friendly". Telephone appointments, drive through windows etc.. The reason is they didn't want to deal with a lot of surly folks who had waited an entire lunch break to stand in line. Still, budget cuts mean cut backs. Given they have the monopoly, they don't really care if you're happy or not. They get paid to be there 8 am to 5 pm. They would rather have you happy, but if you're a jerk, they still get paid. All you accomplish by bitching is to piss off the guy behind you in line who has ten minutes to get back to work. Its not something a clerk can change, its a question of whether you are willing to spend a few bucks more for the license/permit/whatever to have more lines open or to be able to renew on-line.

PS I think that if you are willing to pay an extra thirty bucks a year to have a personalized/choose life/ I love manatees/I graduated from the University of where ever-in-heck licence plate, I should be able to pay an extra $30 to get the express line. Just a thought. ;D

PPS I am all in favor of a requirement for a renewed finger print submission on a CCW. Its no different than a new vision test on a 10 year drivers licence. You could see fine/weren't convicted of a felony then, but now.....?

No point in a new finger print FQ, they don't change.

You're paying for the check, not the print. No need for new prints, just someone to run it again.

Here in New York State, your permit is good for life.  It's just no good in NYC.  NYC permits are good all over the state.   have a non resident FL permit, good for 7 years, and a non resident PA permit, good for 5 years.  I hope reason takes this country back someday, and I can carry anywhere as long as I have no felonies.
You can never have too many guns, or too much ammo
