If you purchased a GSG 5 SD model with a barrel shroud (Fake Suppressor) ATF has now determined that this is regulated by the NFA and must be replaced. To all retail customers:

On January 2010 American Tactical Imports Inc received official notification from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and explosives that the original barrel shroud (aka: fake suppressor) supplied with your GSG 5 SD model must be replaced. It has been determined that this shroud is regulated under the National Firearms Act. American Tactical will provide a replacement shroud at no charge for each GSG 5 SD model sold or currently in inventory.

Is it hollow or solid? I have a fake suppressor on one of my ARs and it's solid metal.

how does it come under the NFA?   it may not be that it actually suppresses the sound, it very well maybe too short or it make the OAL too short.  both of those things would fall under the NFA as well.

Well, on top of the ATF making this assinine rule (ala a string is a machine gun), they have also shut down Cavalry Arms, and now Firearms Blog is reported that they have raided and shut down Sabre Defence, at least temporarily. http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2010/02/18/atf-raid-sabre-defence/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+TheFirearmBlog+%28The+Firearm+Blog%29

Does anyone else get the feeling that - without the rule of any law - they are single-handedly dismantling the small firearms manufacturers? Maybe with orders from the WH?

Sabre is and has been cooperating with federal agents in this investigation.

Sabre has more than 120 employees in its Nashville plant. Sabre’s biggest customer is the United States military. Sabre products used by United States armed forces in Iraq and Afghanistan include .50 caliber barrels and components of the M2 Browning machine gun, 7.62 mm mini-gun barrels, and M-16A3 and A4 rifles. Sabre is the only non-public company in the world ever to be awarded a contract for a military spec M-16 rifle. Sabre is dedicated to continuing to provide high quality firearms to the United States military, state and local law enforcement, and Sabre's commercial customers.
