Evil, Timothy and I like it ;D. I agree with  M58 about jargon though. Its dangerous because its useful. Speaking of political philosophy, I can make an argument in one paragraph that would take me a page to make without using it because you can pack a whole lot of words into one or two. Downside? No one without the secret decoder ring can understand you. Thus you wind up wanking off rather than engaging folks. Survey says? Leave the jargon at home and speak plain English unless there is no alternative, and even then, define your terms. As George Orwell once wrote in a literary essay, it is better to throw out all the rules of conventional English than say someting that is gramatically correct and yet incomphrensible.

One other beef, the use of the pacive voice.
 "Mistakes were made"= I F@cked up
I may have "misspoken"= I DID lie like a rug!
When did "misspoke" become an acceptable word once we dropped the code duello?

Confusing the proper use of "I" and "me".....happens on TV more than internet...but still a peeve to pet with me.
(As in: "He came over to shoot with Bob and I.")   >:(

As to the jargon....my all-time, most hated word that has been overused by so many is..... Infrastructure.   :-X  :-X
"I expect perdition, I always have. I keep this building at my back, and several guns handy, in case perdition arrives in a form that's susceptible to bullets. I expect it will come in the disease form, though. I'm susceptible to diseases, and you can't shoot a damned disease." ~ Judge Roy Bean, Streets of Laredo

For the Patriots of this country, the Constitution is second only to the Bible for most. For those who love this country, but do not share my personal beliefs, it is their Bible. To them nothing comes before the Constitution of these United States of America. For this we are all labeled potential terrorists. ~ Dean Garrison

My MAJOR pet peeve: the misuse of 'penultimate' - and major writers misuse it all the time.  It does not mean 'the best of the best' or the 'ultimate ultimate'.  What does it mean?

Quote
Main Entry: pen·ul·ti·mate
Pronunciation: \pi-ˈnəl-tə-mət\
Function: adjective
Date: 1677

1 : next to the last <the penultimate chapter of a book>
2 : of or relating to a penult

(A penult is the second to last syllable in a word)

Fer crissake Robert E. Lee was not the 'penultimate Southern General'!   ::)
Anti: I think some of you gentleman would choose to apply a gun shaped remedy to any problem or potential problem that presented itself? Your reverance (sic) for firearms is maintained with an almost religious zeal. The mind boggles! it really does...

Me: Naw, we just apply a gun-shaped remedy to those extreme life threatening situations that call for it. All the less urgent problems we're willing to discuss.

I'm watching Tales of The Gun right now.  The narrator just said "weapondry".
