I made the mistake of reading the Opinion section in the Sioux City Journal again.  The discussion was on the passage of the "shall issue" legislation by the Iowa house and Senate.  The bill is now waiting for the signature of our worthless Governor, so I'm not holding my breath that it becomes law.

Anyway, the following post sent my blood pressure off the charts:

That post prompted me to respond (surprise, surprise):

Dana, I would bet that you pass several people on the street each day who are LEGALLY carrying a concealed firearm. The reason you're not aware of that is the term "concealed". I concealed carry (legally) every day, and nobody will ever know, unless it becomes necessary. My hope and prayer is that it never does.

You are downright wrong when you say that there is "no need to carry a concealed weapon UNLESS you have bad intentions." I carry a concealed weapon to protect myself and my family from the people who DO have bad intentions. The police do an admirable job, but they can't be everywhere at once. The saying, "When seconds count, the police are only minutes away" is an absolute truth. Most of the time they arrive in time to draw a chalk line around the bodies and try to figure out who committed the crime. The primary responsibility for my safety rests on MY shoulders. If the police, who I will say again do a WONDERFUL job, could be everywhere at once there would be no crime. Yet, sadly, crime continues to exist. The world is changing, and not necessarily for the better. Mayberry no longer exists.

Btw, you really needn't worry about concealed carry permits as they apply to the predators in our society....they don't bother with them, it's just an inconvenience.

PLEASE look out for yourself, Dana, and don't become a victim.

How do we get the message across to the criminally stupid?  I sometimes feel as though I'm beating my head against a wall.  I'm sure my post won't make a dent with Dana, but my hope is that somebody else might actually think about it with an open mind.

Great Post TT.. You fight the good fight on the western front.  I'll take up the Eastern Front.  I Check the QC Times on a regular basis to try and at least get a good laugh out of the "Criminally Stupid" but sometimes I just can't hold my tongue any more.  I have learned from many people in my life not to get mad.  Just present a well worded argument and hope that someone listens.

Very good reply, TT.

We have a very good example to use to show the effectiveness of the good folks having weapons for self defense.

As we know DC citizens have been allowed to have handguns available for self defense in their homes now for just over a year.

During the year since the law went into effect the murder rate in DC has dropped 30%.  That is a truly amazing number, and think how much better it would be of those good citizens were able to protect themselves outside their homes also.

Ignorance is curable.  Stupidity is frequently fatal. 

That being said, the old "pearls before swine" analogy also comes into play.  Liberals/Dummycraps will never "get it."  And it seems to be a wasted effort to try and show them the light.  Maybe, someday, if some bad guy attempts a violent crime against them, some "concealed carry redneck nutcase" will save their worthless hide and they will then see the value.
