Man loses licence after drink-driving in toy Barbie car

In Michigan I have heard of drivers getting busted for DUI for golf carts and riding lawn mowers, but those are not to be operated on the public right of way.  Also while operating snowmobiles and boats.  I have heard of, but not confirmed of a bicylist being busted for DUI.  I do know of a bicylist that was cited for driving on the wrong side of the street.
Also in MI any type of scooter, electric bike, mini bike, any thing powered or power assisted is not to be operated on the street and (unless street legal) in some if not all locals can not be operated on sidewalks.  Mopeds are OK if it meets certain mandated requirements and restrictions.  I think mopeds need a special state sticker and are restricted to age 15 and over.

In most states you can get a DUI on your own property.  Here if your drunk on a bike on the street, you get a DUI, on the side walk you get a drunk in public.

He does sound like he was out of control...

But, somehow, I don't think his driving license should have been involved.  I doubt he was driving what is legally a vehicle.

Drunk driving laws exist to protect folks from a automobile out of control.

If he had been on a pogo stick, would his license have been revoked?

He may have been endangering folks if he was on a public highway or even sidewalk...but he would have been endangering them more on a skate board or running..

If public drunkenness or endangering the public has provisions for revoking a license when no motor vehicle is involved, I'd find that unusual, but I guess it could be said if you get out of control while drunk, pull the license just in case he might drive drunk

I agree with you. 

However, I do have some problem with the .08 limit.  Even at that low limit you are impaired, but you are also impaired after being awake for 5 hours, being distracted by a group of screaming kids in the car, chatting with the passenger.

The question is are you criminally impaired? 

Probably not for any of those.

I have heard news reporters make statements about folks saying they were tested at over the legal limit when they were doing nothing involving any kind of vehicle, implying the .08 legal driving limit is the absolute drinking limit.

True.  I don't even talk on the cell phone when I'm driving unless on interstate anymore just because it isn't worth it.
