Bic, whether LP, gas, or diesel gens,....they are designed to run under load, at least 75-80%. If they don't, it is actually not good for the field generator, motor, or load bank which creates the electricity. This can cause them to smoke, amongst other things.

Be sure you have the output to your well, breaker protected and isolated from the house power, with a "break before make" type switch, otherwise if the power company gets you back on, while the gen is also running your well,

you get a kaboom.

tt, 100mph ain't too bad, it's them 130+ gusts that make things interesting...

I've got a very nice Honda propane powered one, 12 full gas tanks, and a seperate breaker box. I will be sipping frozen margaritas after the storm, outside, just to piss the neighbors off.  The issue is while its going on. The generator will be in the garage. With the rain bands and line squalls on either end, figuring a twenty mile per hour travel speed, that still gives you the better part of a day before its safe to get the generator going. Plus, the cable will still be shot. I don't know about you, but my TV isn't geared for antanea reception. So I still need the thing.

Did I mention Inverters with golf cart batteries? Works great...for TV.....Just make sure their true "Sine Wave" inverters.

Get an over-sized hamster wheel and hook it to an alternator, tied to a battery, tied to an inverter......then throw a couple of iguanas on it and PRESTO!!!
