Walther P38
« on: August 07, 2010, 05:05:06 AM »
I just aquired a Walther P38,have'nt shot it yet but looks to be in pretty good shape and wondering the value of it.This model has the loop for a lanyard and came with 3 mags,I think one mag came with it originally.On the left side of the slide it has markings that says Carl Walther  Waffenfabrik Ulm/Do P38 9mm 493 with the serial number a bit lower and on the other side it has 12/61.I'm tapping into the extensive brain trust here for info,thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

If it has a steel frame it is a post war P-1, that could make the 12/61 marking a manufacture or rebuild date.

As a newbie,,,,the pics are where????? ::)
Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."
Col. Jeff Cooper.

A 61 date would be prewar of course but with a steel frame.  The P-1 has a alunimium frame.

The "war" ended in 45, I think you meant POST war  ;D
And I messed up in my first post, If it has an ALUMINUM frame it is a post war P-1, the prewar and wartime P-38's had steel frames.
I'm shocked that no one else caught that in the 4 days since I posted.

Remember the most important thing Tim, Gloves prevent rope burns when you are hoisting heavy objects.

Like say, Barney Frank.            ;D
