Progressive Loading

I know at one point MB mentioned progressive loading in one of his podcasts. Does anyone know of any good reading material on the subject or has experimented with it themselves? I spend most of my time out in the country and so I thought that the Public Defender would be good on small critters that I encounter. I've done a bit of patterning with it and noticed that the 1/2 oz. #4 patterns are very wide, even at 7 yards. The 000 buck that I patterned was a different story entirely. At 7 yards three of the pellet holes were touching and the fourth was about 1.5" away.

As of right now I am loading the Public Defender with the first chamber full of 1/2 oz. #4 (snakes, squirrels, face shots), followed by two chambers of Winchester PDX1 (12 BB and three disks for versatility) and then two chambers of Federal .410 Handgun four pellet 000 Buck for body shots. What do you think? This is what I conceive as the best way to adapt my tactics to the firearm that I am carrying.

Me either! I kinda like TR for his conservation efforts, but definitely not for his politics.

I don't reload shotgun, so I may be wrong, but I thought most shotgun reloaders were progressive.

I suspect any number of websites (RCBS, LEE, REDDING, HORNADY, or the powder makers) have some on-line material.

If it were metallic shells, then you need to check out, DILLON and SINCLAIR.   Sinclair has a YouTube channel with reloading videos, but all metallic I think.  http://www.youtube.com/SinclairInc

Alf, I am referring not to the actual reloading of cartridges but the practice of alternating different types of rounds in revolver chambers. I see how that could be confusing though...

In general, when I carry one of my .44 Rugers around the farm, I load 2 CCI snake-shots, 2 .44spl JHP's, and 2 .44mag JSP (mule kickers)....staged with the shotshells first in case of rattlesnakes. I have loaded 3 each of shot and specials, but it's usually as stated in the first sentence.

Sounds like a good combination to me! I need to gun the the pistol on a silhouette target with all the chambers and see what the result looks like.

Well I feel stupid.   Just sitting here ripping through postings and emails.  Firing off replies left and right.  Actually, I'm doing technical review for a math primer for a friend, so I jump over to his on-line book, read a section, do the worksheet, send him corrections then jump over to DRTV and process a few postings.   Need to slow down.  Need to slow down.

I thought you were ramblin' on about different loads.....duh.......I've got reloading on the brain today.

Me: Naw, we just apply a gun-shaped remedy to those extreme life threatening situations that call for it. All the less urgent problems we're willing to discuss.
