mkm,

I think I speak for everyone in saying thanks for joining in the forum & discussion!  That's what any forum is all about, sharing information and opinions so we can all learn together.  Well, I guess that's my opinion anyway.  ;D

Can you imagin working on that whaling ship and getting hit in the head by one of the glass bottles the hippies are throwing!?!  Entirely possible it may kill, at least blind you.  Pathfinder put it perfectly when he said "The road to hell is paved with good intentions".

As far as not killing them because their intelligent...  "Then God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitfull and increase in number, fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.""

I agree 100% we shouldn't hunt them to extinction.  But at the current rate it's FAR from an issue.  Years ago SURE.  Not now.

As I understand it, some shady companies sell dolphin meat as whale because it's way cheaper.  Supposedly, nobody could tell the differance...

"And they called him Flipper, Flipper!"

Pass that A1 Pathfinder.  I'll get you a beer.  ;D

I'll join the welcome, have fun, voice your opinion, let us beat you up and support you, and help us all learn together crowd.

I'll also join the crowd that points out another side of this:

I started the other thread on this, and it is not about hunting whales.  My issue is with the fact that the sea shepherds are nothing more than a bunch of pirates ... sorry Peg for the comparison  ;)

Whether the Japanese are right or wrong in what they are doing, I believe that the clowns in the black crafts need to be shot on sight, and that Pete should have been hung!

I also question why no nation stands up against Japan if what they are doing is wrong, and I point out that when the ady was sunk the Japanese ship was not found at fault by an international organization.
If I appear taller than other men it is because I am standing on the shoulders of others.

mkm:

Welcome to our little dysfunctional family.

First of all, thank you for the insight you provide.  I must admit that you caused me to think in ways other than I would have normally thought on this topic.

That being said, I have to agree with the seemingly prevailing sentiment here.  These yahoos are little more than militant vigilantes.  The guys on the whaling ships are attempting to make a living in an (apparently) lawful pursuit.  The actions of the idiots who are trying to stop them from doing so are tantamount to somebody who would assault a slaughterhouse worker because they wanted to protect cows.

They get hurt or jailed.....tough poop.  They're lucky the whalers don't take stronger defensive measures.

Again, thanks for joining us, and I look forward to getting to know you better.  Take care!!
I love waking up every morning knowing that Donald Trump is President!!

And boycotting the meat means it just goes to waste.

Meat's meat and it doesn't matter if it is Beef, Elk Chicken or Whale to me.    Whale Wars is just another example of the Lunatic Fringes trying to force their beliefs upon the population as a whole.   The facts are that only a very small portion of the Earths seas have been explored and no one...NO ONE knows exactly what if any impact the Japanese hunting whales has done to the current population.
The Japanese culture is based on food taken from the seas...Just as the United States culture is based around Beef, Pork and Chicken.  If some Eco Terrorist group from another country began disrupting the food supplies of our coutry I bet there would be bloodshed over it long before now.
Restrictions are already in place...leave the Japanese alone and concentrate on enforcing the rules already in place....And that includes the Anti-Pirate/Terrorist ones.
I still say the best episode of Whale Wars will be the one when the Steve Irwin slips beneath the waves and Paul Watson is led to Prison in Handcuffs.  This idiot is nothing more than a criminal who has managed to twist the laws and evade a cell.
This is the real Paul Watson

Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. The only thing you can’t do is ignore them

From the link in rats post (GREAT ONE BTW!):

Watson is a terrorist who has said that "earthworms are far more valuable than people."

"There's nothing wrong with being a terrorist, as long as you win. Then you write history."
-- Paul Watson

WOW!  I wish he could hear me tell a waiter.  "I can't finish all this.  Just wrap my whale steak and dolphin ribs up in a crisp baby seal skin and I'll take it home for later!

Never turn your back on someone that believes the ends justify the means.

"No Maam.  If I was expecting trouble, I'd have a rifle."
