That's why you carry insurance. Apparently no one reads their policies anymore. You have medical coverage included with your vehicle insurance if your injuries are from the operation of that vehicle. The government has nothing to do with it.

not in all states.  many states only require, liabilty( IE the other guy is paid for).  Even if you do have medical coverage, there are limits on that policy.  Even if lets just say you have a 1 mill cap, you can exceed that in a matter of days. 

I recently did some math with my wife on a simple knee replacement.   The bill is about 75k, about 15k in "parts".  That leaves 60k for all of the preopt and post opt stuff.  Long story short, there is ~ 100 man hours in the actually operation.  That means they are bill 600/hour on average. 

Now think about having to be basicly reconstructed, with several surgerys, PT, EMS... etc etc. Even if you forget about long term care, the bill is going to get pretty big pretty fast.  I won't even get started on brain injurys.

Helmet, no helmet.....your choice.  Shouldn't be a law but as already mentioned, you give up the right to sue me unless it's absolutely my fault.

I was wearing a helmet and the helmet absolutely saved my life.  My injuries were extensive, including a fractured eye socket, cheekbone, concussion, broken back, broken hip, four broken ribs, broken shoulder, ruptured spleen, kidney laceration and three dislocated toes.

It was his fault, without a doubt and four witnesses.  The state minimum for personal injury in Rhode Island is 25K of which, I received about 8K after the shiest-er got his cut and my health provider got their third.

My hospital bill for 71 days, 14 of which in ICU, 21 in the rehab hospital and 16 surgeries was about 600K.  My employers health insurance company paid all but about 10K of that.

Long story, short answer....BUY PERSONAL INJURY PROTECTION THROUGH YOUR OWN INSURANCE COMPANY!  I now carry about 500K of PIP on my cars just in case and it's not that expensive.

I'll never ride again, 34 years of experience can't make up for one second of stupidity......

Here is my deal with helemts and seat belts.

If you don't want to wear one, fine, but you get zero help from the goverment, if you don't wear one.

I mean zero.

Sadly that does not happen, so the only pratical solution is to make it a requirement.

Huh?   Where does the government get any privileges to hand out?

And if you have them making the restrictions on what it will cost to fix someone up, no one would be riding a bike or driving anything but a Checker cab limited to 35mph.  Forget McDonalds  and Pizza too.  Alcohol is all gone.  So is driving boats an over 35 knots.

None of those are privileges for the government to dole out.

Not so much a "privilege" as it is a regulated right, depending on how you chose to travel. The term privilege is another term we use for the touchy-feely warm and fuzzy we get after the gubmint convinces us they are doing us a favor.
Think about 150 years ago......if you wanted to travel a couple hundred miles to see family, you packed your horse or wagon, or if you were really poor, you hoofed it. No license, tags, fees, fuel tax, etc.
Now, fast forward a few generations and highways were built due to the abundance of automobiles. And someone said, "great, how are we gonna pay for the upkeep and such for all these new roads?"
And someone else said "hey, let's slap a tax on all these automobiles, and, and, get this, each state can charge folks a fee to get a license to drive the damned things on the gubmint's new roads that we built with their tax money"......and you know the rest.
Basically I have the 'right' to go where I want (private property and military bases not withstanding, yada yada) I just have to pay for it....or walk......or go back to the old horse and buggy..........

You are correct, they may have stolen them.

Still doesn't mean I'll ever bend over and be thankful they have given me the privileged of driving on them.....or even acknowledge it it a privilege rather then a right.
