A question of strategy?

I was looking for a new book. I have to admit that when I am at a loss for what to read, I sometimes go over the "reccomended" reading lists from old syllabi (yes, I'm a nerd, but at least I admit it). Thing is I ran across this little gem from a military science class. Its the USMC "Small Wars Manual" by a Major Harrington. It went through several versions, but the one I ordered was printed in 1935. Anyway, avoiding the geekgasm, it should be arriving next week. The sad thing is, this thing was written 75 years ago, and seems like a good template (at least from the blurbs) as to what we are facing today.
Anyone read this thing? I know many of you have served. Anyone read it, or have thoughts?

I was so far down on the food chain in the military I had to ask permission to look the word "strategy" up in the dictionary.   Looking forward to hearing your review.  I may want to add it to my reading list.     Right now reading reading Sowell's Applied Econ.

I would not bother with the "Small wars Manual" unless you want to beat people over the head with the fact of Diplomats controlling military operations. It is not geared toward the individual, but to a Government operated force.
It there fore depends on a level of logistic support that makes it useless to us.
If you want it for insight into today's operations it will give you some insight, where it REALLY shines though is when you bear in mind that the issue you will hold in your hands, printings pre 1941, were what formed the thinking behind much of the war against Japan.

I just got done reading  (second time )"Killing Pablo" by Mark Bowden, The guy who wrote "BlackHawk Down" writes about the pursuit and killing of Pablo Escobar. Not as good as "Blackhawk Down " but still very good reading.

I'm currently working on volume 2 of "The Mitrokhin archive" of KGB files. It would probably facinate FQ and no one else here

A while ago I ran out of reading material while stuck at O'Hare.  Looking through the pitiful little bookstore I came across a copy of the counterinsurgency manual (don't remember the FM#, but it is available as free pdf if you google it).  It really helps understand politics today.  The progressive playbook is the insurgent playbook.

Absolutely ! There is no difference between Sun Tzu, Mao, or Alinsky.
They all address war as the continuation of politics by other means, but what people can't grasp is that "Progressives see politics as war by other means.
Progressives share with Muslims the joys of eternal warfare, in this case the "Class war" between the workers and the deadbeats.

Too true. But lets not blame it on a particular ideology. Its as old as human nature. "What's mine is mine, and what's your's is mine too, if I can get away with it". The framers had it right. Don't depend on virtue. Depend on self interest. They came up with a system of checks and balances to make vice act in the service of virtue. Anything else? You're kidding yourself.
