It is so typical of the shallow stage one thinking so many of the progressives have.   Finished reading Dr. Sowell's book, Applied Economics and (not at dry as you'd think) he talks about how so many people don't think very deeply beyond the most immediate results of their actions.  Especially congress-critters who don't seem to fathom the consequences of the bills they pass.  This lack of depth apparently extends much broader than Dr. Sowell could have imagined.

Can't afford to think deep when the primary research prior to your vote is the polls.  "Let's see what the polls say ... must know or I'll lose my job!"  To me the most valuable "critter" is the one that doesn't care about our opinion of the vote.  He acts like a parent voting in our best interest and using the Constitution as the rating system for all he votes for or against.

Disclaimer - He should care about our opinion, but it must be weighed against the Constitution and the idea of "buying votes."  It's easier just to say "I don't care about the polls"  ;)
If I appear taller than other men it is because I am standing on the shoulders of others.
