Well Tom, here in the tropical zone of Minnesota (SW) it was a balmy 7.2 F when I just filled my coffee cup.  Unlike the "Cat" who lives where the biggest fashion decision made is which floral print shirt or whether to shave his legs today or not, up here we have different layers for each of four seasons, and we use most of them in any given month.

When I shop I try to keep my right hand clear as much as possible, but as a part of my practice I practice dropping packages before "draw."  I started this, because when traveling, a daily curse with the new job, unless I want to take three trips out of the hotel I must use both hands.

My ideal is exactly what I saw Ed Head and Masad do this past week - Hand on the gun in a way no one knows.  With the "mouse guns," I can have my hand in my pocket, and nobody knows I am in contact with the grip.  When I am carrying items in both hands and waiting for something like an elevator or in line I will set the item in my right hand down.

Back to part of your original point, I chose clothes based on carry options and how things could go.  I do occasionally find that I am putting on clothes that will make draw more difficult, and then I file it away for the next shopping trip.  For those that are concerned about heavy coats in the "cold zone," an extra 500 calories a day for a month and a half will make it possible to wear lighter jackets for easier carry options

BTW its' 72 right now, although they say it will be in the low forties tonight and predicting 30s through Thursday night with highs around sixty.  THAT'S COLD!

Heat of the day here at 35 degrees.  Really beautiful though....in the sun, it feels like 36!

68 here and that's the high today with a low of 40 tonight and a high in the mid to upper 50's the next couple days. My favorite time of the year in Florida. I find that if I had a close range encounter I would most likely engage the threat with my "backup" since my hand always seems to be in or near my LCP in my from pocket and would draw it much easier and less inconspicuous than my primary IWB carry. If I had an immediate threat I feel like I would just draw it and if things were going to escalate or if any ranges were going to increase and/or multiple threats I would move the LCP to my weak hand and draw my "primary" at this point. I've run through this scenario enough at the range it should be instinctual.

That's pretty much my thinking as well.
At these temps my hand and P-32 are in the same pocket, so it only makes sense.

First off:

You're settin' back on your pockets a bit in that PIC aren't you? Looks like you got tipped a little away from your hand too.

Second:

While I try to keep my primary hand/arm free, sometimes that just isn't practical. Sometimes it's easier to let my left hand slide into my left front pocket and grab a hold of my BUG, with nobody the wiser. I wouldn't consider a J-Frame in 38 Special to be a "mousegun" but I do tend to like bigger and/or faster calibers if given a choice.
