Is anything going to change?

Yes, we witnessed a dramatic congressional upheaval November past with Republicans reclaiming the House and the majority of Democrats who did win having done so by running on right-of-center platforms.

But what has really changed? And pursuant to Republican promises of change, I am not remotely comfortable with what I see. There's certainly enough reason not to trust them. Additionally, I'm uncomfortable because the same players with abysmal track records are still in charge on both sides of the aisle.

For all the spittle-sprayed pontification (most notably by Republicans) following the November elections, one of the first acts of business was to pass a trillion dollar spending bill called a tax-cut compromise.

Granted, I may be looking at things simplistically, but why does it cost a trillion dollars to extend tax cuts that were already in place? It's because, just as the bill was labeled, it was about compromise, i.e., we'll give you the tax cut but it will cost the American people a trillion dollars – and those on our side said OK. They compromised, and we got the short end of the stick.

The first Republican act of business after the November elections was a dramatic fanfare aimed at ending earmarks. But included in the tax-cut bill were approximately 6,000 earmarks, many of them added by members (and senior members at that) of the same party calling for an end to them.

Now the 112th Congress is about to be seated, and I ask again, what has changed? How are the interests of the people going to be served? My feeling, until proven otherwise, is that they won't be. We still have Republican Party elites and pundits blaming the tea party for Republicans not taking control of the Senate. I heard Dana Perino, on "Fox and Friends," call Sen. Lisa Murkowsky, R-Alaska, a good conservative. Karl Rove and Charles Krauthammer championed uber liberal Mike Castle, R-Del., even as G.W. Bush championed Arlen Specter, as they continue in their attempt to marginalize Sarah Palin.

New boss same as the old boss? I've said before, if the GOP even pretended to care about the tea party, they'd at least have put some new faces in leadership. The fact that they didn't speaks volumes. As for the Dems, Pelosi didn't even step down. Can you hear me now Nancy? Apperantly not.

Either the current Republican leadership needs to go or the Tea Party needs to break away from BOTH parties.
I predict that the Republican dominated House will accomplish very little against the Senate , which is still dominated by Dems, and BO's veto, By the same token, the Dems won't be able to do anything since all bills originate in the House.
Considering the nonexistent memory span of the voters, this stalemate more or less guarantee's a 2nd term for BO.

Well I think at least one thing has changed for the better. The Dems can't railroad whatever they want through in the middle of the night or behind closed doors any longer. That's one good thing. Another good thing is grid lock, it makes it so that nothing gets done, a good thing, or it requires tough negotiations and compromise to pass anything, also good. It allows constituents to have their say to their congressmen -- if either the citizens or the congressmen are awake.

I have other like thoughts in detail, but that's enough. Rant off.

I see a bunch of changes...  Politicians will stop lying to us and tell us the "new" truth instead.  Taxes WILL go up.  Standard of living will go down.  The dollar just may go away.  Kids will need to learn Chinese before they can get a job.  Sharia Law will be the accepted standard in Michigan.  Unemployment will be the new norm.  Home ownership will be further reduced.

So many more changes are headed our way.

+1.  The "Know Nothings" have been replaced by the "Do Nothings".  I agree that BO will get re-elected, both for the reasons you mentioned, and because the GOP can't muster up a candidate with more charisma than the contents of a chamber pot.

For the most part "grid-lock" in government is good.  If nothing gets done at least they can't mess things up further.  The wild card is the Executive Branch ruling by Executive Order.

If the New House Majority is going after repealing Obamacare, make them defend it. Sure the Senate will kill it, let alone BHO will veto anything that makes it that far.

Limbaugh, had a point, the majority of this country does not want Obamacare as passed, so make them defend it, week after week.
Keep the pressure on it. Read page 2,107, subsection C, sub-paragraph ii. Whatever.

They want to repeal the Czar's.....Good. I am optimistic, if the House can grow a pair, can make the Senate, and Harry Reid, defend the BS that went through over the last two years.

This will set up another election in 2012. That will hopefully end BHO's Presidency, and chisel away at a Senate majority, purge some more RINO's, and get this country back on track.

If not, as Watchman posted. I'd rather have nothing done, if all it will do is make things worse.

At least with Exec. Orders, The House and its Committee's can start impeachment proceedings, if nothing else to throw a monkey wrench in the BHO machine.

I hope they don't capitulate, and maintain a testicular fortitude that stops the madness.
