Beretta 90two

OK boys and girls - I'm shopping!

Looking at making a move from the Government 1911.  Only real change I'm looking for is to go from single action to double/single action.

Number one on the not like list was leaving .45acp for .40S&W, but then I remembered that my secondary gun is a .380acp.  Guess I can give up a little energy and enjoy the extra rounds.

Looked at the LDA, but if I'm going small I already have a peanut gun in the pocket  ;)

Dimensions between the 90two and the 1911 are almost the same.  Only difference is the 90two is 0.25 thicker (1.5" vs. 1.25"), and the 1911 is seven ounces heavier unloaded (32.5 oz. for the 90two vs. 39.5 oz.).  Length and height are equal.

Equipment changes are not a huge problem.  I am getting ready to do a major change in magazine carry, and that simple move is what got me looking at new gun.  Some people JUST have a box-o-holsters.  I have a box-o-guns and magazines too  ;D

The only semi auto I would consider other than a 1911 is a Glock. As for this Beretta, , if it's been on the market less than a year I'm not interested, let them get production and quality smoothed out before you go jumping into any new product, whether it's guns, vehicles or whatever.

CZ-97 - it's a 45 and it's a CZ!

If you are looking for higher capacity and like the 1911, I cannot say enough good about the Browning Hi-Power (older Belgian models prefered). The only downside is the magazine disconnect saftey, but its essentially a slimmer 1911 with 14+1 capacity. Otherwise, I'm with Tom, buy a Glock. The triger action is the same on the first and second shot and its idiot proof and reliable. Generally I tend to have the attitude of "if its good enough for the Army, its good enough for me" when it comes to SD weapons, but I've never warmed to the Berettas. :-\

M-  Gotta agree with Fuzdaddy...the CZ 97 is a big, beautiful 45. At least look at it. Another one that quietly stands up as a great gun is Sig 220.

I do like my Para Ordnance p14 Lda, and wouldn't you know it just before Bho was elected, they came out with a 15 rd .45acp mag, and it was the same price, so I bought them up as much as I could afford. Never been a fan of the 92, awful big for a 9mm, and yes the slides do crack, yes you have to shoot them a lot, but more than 1 has let a slide come off the frame. I do think the XD or M&P might do well too, I love CZ, but have not shot one.

One of my biggest gripes about the Beretta is the slide mounted safety - up is off, down is on.  If you are used to the 1911 you had better train a lot with the Beretta to overcome muscle memory and habit.  I'd hate to push the safety the wrong direction at the wrong time.

I have no experience with the 90two but I did have a 96 in .40 S&W (I think that is what you are looking at) and can talk to that a little.  While accurate enough, I thought the recoil/flip was excessive.  Maybe they have dampened it on the 90two.  For as big as it was I was unimpressed with it's capacity (12 round mag).  Nothing above average on this gun.

If you don't have to have a steel frame, I'd suggest that you look at the FNX-40.  It has a 14 round capacity, is about as thick as the Beretta but with a shorter (commander-ish size) barrel.  It is DA/SA with a safety/decocker so it can be carried in condition one.  Heck of a gun for the money IMHO.  I like it much better than my 96.

Here's a short review I wrote after I got mine.

I don't know about the XDM, but I can't recommend the original XD highly enough...both my BIL's Service Model and my SubCompact have been great-shooting guns and reliable as the sunrise. I'm partial to the 9mm, but I've heard good things about the .40S&W as well. Plus you get increased mag capacity in a grip not much larger than a 1911...with a near-1911-like trigger to boot.
Why, yes....I'm the right-wing extremist Obama warned you about... ;D

I know that I am preaching to the choir, but damn this is fun!

The only thing more fun that shooting or reloading, for me, is gun shopping and competition prep.  I can't get a line on the Pro-Am this year (nobody seems to have time to respond to emails), but this gun shopping is a blast.

I have a few guns in mind that I want to get my hands on, and I need some range time - Good thing there is a range I know of that has an open house coming up in their shop and range  ;D

I'm heading down to our local indoor range soon to try MB's theory of a 9mm over anything because he can put more accurate shots on target quickly than with the .45.  I've been a .45 for power over the numbers of a 9mm.

One thing that came to mind after more research and shopping is that it is not just the gun to carry.  Magazines also come into play, and I'm used to the 1911 mags that are thin and sleek.

So far I haven't had to pay for any drool damage to a gun, but it has been close.
