In the breakdown that I was looking for Rastus showed the the lions share of what you pay for gas goes to state and federal taxes.

yup.....where I live, the average is 3.35 a gallon.  When I go the in-laws, they're paying about 3.02.  It's only about 50 miles to MA.  Hell, I can go six miles into RI and pay 20 cents less as it is now.

CT, I believe, has the highest gas taxes in the US.

Just payed nearly 4 bucks for heating oil today.....only got a hunert gallons.....397 samolians....and by law, they can't tax that...

From the link:
But drillers learned how to increase the number of cracks in the rock and use different chemicals to free up oil at low cost.

There was a 60 Minutes (no spin there ::)) story on this a while back, some folks ended up with natural gas in their wells and can't use them.
I think the companies provided another source of water, but I'm going on my flaccid memory here, so...

The companies won't say what the proprietary chemicals are and that scares the tree huggers. Doing it in an unpopulated area like ANWR would take care of that.

I say, drill baby, drill! Even if it goes to another country it adds to the world supply and should bring down prices.
You can say lots of bad things about pedophiles; but at least they drive slowly past schools.

Other then the new chemical, I'm not sure what is so new about the completion method. Fracing has been used around here for longer then i can remember and was used before I was in the oilfield. In my experiance it is normally a casing leak that will pollute drinking water and not from the actual frac job. Unless the engineer really messed up or they are fracing too shallow near the groundwater. jmho

Bodean is right, It has been common practice for about 50 years in Artisian well drilling. If you are getting some water but not enough, try dropping a stick of dynamite down the well.
In fact, I know one idiot that got better flow from a hand driven well point by firing a 30/06 down the hole.

@ WatchmanUSA: No worries.  8)   I got no problem with them drilling there.  I talked about this on the phone and realised that my main thought was getting missed.

My main thought is that even if the oil comes from here, don't expect the return of $1.00 or even $2.00 a gallon gas again.  I think we'll be lucky to get $2.50 a gallon at best.

@ tombogan03884:  Man.  That guy was nuts!   :o
