Pocket Pistols: J-Frame: Clandestine Ammo Carrier?
« on: February 19, 2011, 06:52:45 PM »
First off, I really enjoyed the recent show on pocket pistols. Ed Head illustrated the concerns of a 5- or 6-shot weapon. He suggested carrying two. Short of doing that, if you wanted to carry a speed loader, is there a way to do so discreetly? I have IWB magazine pouches. But, I have nothing on hand to conceal speed loaders. Well, a jacket pocket I suppose. But, has anyone come out with something that could be worn on the belt that looked like what it wasn't? Just curious how others have dealt with this.

When I carry my J-Frame I carry speed strips.  If you have ever thought that a revolver was bulky with its thickness you will hate a speed loader.

I can carry speed strips in a cellphone pouch on the belt.  They make really nice holders for them, but I had an unused cellphone pouch and liked it.

Clever idea. I have two speed loaders, but do not have any speed strips. I'll look into that. Thanks!

I use Bianchi strips for my M85 snub, I can easily pocket or pouch them, they hold fast, and have held up well.

Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."

Speed strips is the way to go. Be sure to practice the reloads with them. It's not that tough, but does take some practice.

You may also want to try a stripper clip from a SKS. It'll hold 10 rounds securely, and you can wrap it in a hankerchief/bandana and put it in your pocket. I've carried them in mag pouches before, but it's hit or miss depending on the pouch (need a flap closure to work well).
Why, yes....I'm the right-wing extremist Obama warned you about... ;D

Good for no speed loader use a dump pouch for belt, it looks innocuous.

Better for speed loader is to put in in the pocket of the gun side jacket. The weight of the loader helps sweep the jacket out of the way on the draw. Practice and see. This was a tip to me from a Secret Service Agent who is now the chief firearms instructor at a US Government Law Enforcement agency.

I carry a Jframe with two speed strips. Practice with the speed strips does help you get faster. After ejection, it is easy to quickly strip 2 at a time into the cylinder.
