What you need is a PTR-91! Yes the H&K's will thump the heck out of you, JDL changed the number of flutes in the PTR and that stopped, recoil is as mild as one could ask from a 7.62 NATO. The heavy target barrel also makes the weapon balance better than the H&K and allows the use of lead bullets which were a no-no with the polygonal barrel. The sights are improved versions as well with windage adjustment on the rear.

and get the paddle mag release re-installed

and, if the stock is too short (which it is for most larger adults) you can try to find the stock extension (which I'm trying to do now), get the magpul (for the cost of a small handgun), find a Namibian stock (and pick up some Roc eggs while you are out) or just deal with it. Of course you might convince one of your industry friends to start making Namibian stocks (hint-hint). Or you might just have to deal with it.

The PTR is the best of the H&K/CETME rifles around and the H&K/CETME is the best TEOTWAWKI, Road Warrior weapon you can have. It will fire anything, it just about never breaks and it spit bullets under conditions that an AK would sweat over.

They also happen to be on sale at a certain dealer, which I will PM if you want as I don't want everyone here buying them up before I can get one.

Good looking rifle in the right caliber.  1200 for the base model is too steep for me right now, but if I had the cash....

It'll be interesting to compare this to a current m1a, an AR-10, as well as to the new generation of .308 coming online this year, like the SCAR-H, Masada, and the Cobb MCR.

I wish there was a definitive way to measure recoil.

I had a CIA Cetme, I paid $500 it was a piece of crap. Functioned GREAT would not hit a barn from inside. Guess thats one case where I got what I paid for and not a bit more    Reassembly is impossible if you don't  have the bolt extented if it's retracted into the bolt carrier the locking rollers won't allow the bolt to fit into the reciever.

Little trick, turn the bolt carrier around and insert it backward. This forces the bolt open, then remove it and turn it around to reassemble. It takes a bit of a whack to open the bolt head but it does work. As for the accuracy;

A) check the inside of the barrel to see of the muzzle-break pin is protruding into the barrel (yep, that is CIA for ya)

B) the front sight is canted on most of the CIA builds. Get a laser bore-sighter and check the sights. OR, bore site is the old way. Sandbag the gun in place and put a target 10 or 15 feet in front of the barrel. take the stock and the bolt out and look down the barrel, then raise your head STRAIGHT UP to the sights. It will take a few tries but you can do it, and you will see if the sights are off. If so contact the AZ Gun Plumber, he is the man for this kind of work.

Yep!  Could be why they haven't rolled'em out yet? Although they look great on the video, and I'd really want one, I'll follow our buddy Clay's advice and wait and see after it is on the market a couple of years. I am surprised that KT, having spent all that $ on R&D, has not produced and sold all it can before the specter of a new AWB materializes.

I used to just pop it out with a screw driver blade, I traded it for an AR which I later traded for a RIA 1911 and $140. The .45 is now my carry gun and it hits what  I aim at
