The nation is covered with zombies right now.......they are all walking around in condition white, texting, and drinking half-caff-vanilla-mocha-chinos.

I hate to be mister party pooper, but it just wasn't for me.   Sorry.  I guess I'll go down in the negative column.   I know what you were trying to accomplish, but I don't think it was there.   Maybe, I'm just not into all the video games.   I am after all more of the "Adventure" game generation.   <xyzzy>

"Serpent and the Rainbow" was the movie that did it for me.  ;D

It's cyclical, in the 80's and 90's we had the slasher movies, "Halloween", Friday the 13th,"Childs Play" and the ever popular "Nightmare on Elm St.", One studio will come up with a good one and all the others will try to cash in on it.
Plus, it has an aspect of nonviolent  violence to it. Yes, your shooting them in the head, whacking them with axes, machete's and clubs, but they are already dead so it doesn't offend the "Thou shall not kill, or play with war toys" crowd.

Those scenes took 2 14-hour days and 2 additional 8-hour days to film, because we DIDN'T point the guns at our zombies...it took a minimum of 5 separate camera shots (and a very wide lens!) to make sure we had the angle right so it appeared we were shooting directly at the zoms. It wasn't unusual to run the #1 camera and 5 separate POV cameras at all sorts of odd angles, then reverse the main camera and do it all again. We also had an armorer on site who tested the blanks, acted at safety officer on the shots, etc.

The only exception was when I shot my friend Tom Judd (in the flight suit and helmet) up close with the mare's leg. Tom was wearing body armor with a rifle plate. We still had to do the shot numerous times because we had to make sure the shot was angled at almost a 45-degree angle down so the blast would be directed the right way. I thought the finished product looked great...we have superb editors!

It was the most grueling 4 days of filming I've even been through...the weather was bitterly cold, and somewhere around 9PM each shooting day I just crawled home and collapsed...

BTW, I wanted to do this episode because we are looking at a wholesale change on the SG format for next year...as much as I love the show (and as big a success as it has become), I believe in the Darwinian Imperative...adapt or die. It made sense to me to change the show while we're on top, and I wanted to do a last episode in the old format.

I finished the first draft of the new SG today, and I have meetings on it all day tomorrow...several people have mentioned to me that I'm taking a risk changing a successful show...I told them that's what I do...I hope I'm not a complete idiot!

And Alf, don't worry, Brother...at least you didnd't send me an email threatening my life!

LOL!

BTW, if you're in teh Denver area, we're going to have a party over at Alan Samuel's MACHINEGUN TOURS store in Lakewood, CO, Saturday from noon to 5PM. All Forum members in the area are, of course, invited.

Considering we graduate over a million students every year that are illiterate, it's no wonder!

Ya gotta aspire to something in life!  Zombieism is easily a minimum wage gig, ain't it?

The post modern poli-sci explanation is simple. Movies express a fictionalized version of our collective fears. During the Cold war it was alien invasions and body snatchers, a view of commie subversives and a Russian attack. They didn't make it explicit because it would be seen as over the top. Ever wonder why "Red Dawn" wasn't made in the early sixties or late fifties? I do, hell it should have been a no brainer, but it never happened. The zombie thing is explained as a gen X thing where foks distrust authority and fear not subversion from without, but brain washing from within turning us all ito evil mindless drones who eat the brains of normal folks. I take this with a grain of salt, but it does make a certain degree of sense. The greatest benefit of post modernism is that it makes us look at art as a commodity. We used to ask "What did the author indend and what sort of sybolism did he use?" I'm still scarred for life from an English teacher who obbsesed over that damn green light in "The Great Gatsby". Po-mo on the other hand asks a different question. They say "Screw the author. Why do millions of people shell out their money and time to read or watch this stuff? What makes it resonate to a particular audience at a particular time"? Its a good question to ask.
