Gotta agree with TW on the wine thing. I used to be a bit of a wine snob (the perils of youth). I figured out though that screw tops, including some very good Aussie and now Cali wines, not only bottle age just fine, but they have two advantages over corks. First, they don't get "corked" which is what happens when the cork dries out or rots and spoils the wine. The second is that if you want to save an open bottle for a day or two, the screw top does a better job than the vacum seal rubber stoppers like Vacuvin that I had been using. I say mere power to the screw tops. As far as cans? I have a very strict "no glass in the boat" policy so if I'm afloat, its out of a can.

I'm not sure about any where else, but our local court house has 2 signs by the door, the smaller one says" no weapons", the larger one says "no food or beverages"

Is that because cans decompose faster when you through your empties in the lakes and rivers ?

It applies to ALL watercraft.  They'll yank your drivers license in a heartbeat.

Its a bit different here in Fl. You can drink and boat, you just can't be drunk.(a common sense law that ought to apply to cars). Bottom line is that one or two are fine, more than that, you get a DWI if you blow over .08. The passengers can drink their fill, which is as it should be. A sober driver, and the rest is no one else's business.   Its not just beer though, the no glass thing applies to any food or drink container. In a boat waves cause people to drop stuff and it hits a hard deck. You can clean all you want, but there is always that little sliver of glass you miss right up till you step on it. :P

Having grown up in Michigan, lived in Florida, California, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Iceland and a United States Navy Veteran, I've never been on a boat!





kidding.......I agree that glass of any kind is not a good idea on a boat.

it's true that in my six years of Naval service, I never set foot on a ship or sub though...

The Middletown Times Herald-Record reports that Keith Gruber of Swan Lake was an hour and a half late for his court appearance Monday before Sullivan County Judge Frank LaBuda, who asked him if he enjoyed his "liquid lunch."
Gruber said he did, then said he was sorry.
LaBuda sent him to jail with no bail.
"It was obvious he was intoxicated," LaBuda said.
Gruber, who has prior DWI convictions, was arrested on Dec. 27 in the town of Liberty and was out on $30,000 cash bail.

NH is pretty much the same, Marine Patrol will bust you on the lake, I don't know about row boats and canoes.

I went to renew my driver's license last week.  

I had to decide what to wear for the picutre....my Guinness T-Shirt or my Jack Daniels T-Shirt.

I wore the Jack Daniels....it went with my Jack Daniels Field Tester ball cap.  Also, I didn't want the folks there to think I was a beer swilling pleb.

I made the right choice....I got a lot of admiring stares from the folks there.  

They did make me take off my cap for the picture though.
