How about all of the above?  ;D  Plastic, Leather, Kydex, Nylon, and cotton?  I recently got a OWB Blackhawk! Serpa.  Plastic but love the retention and the weapon release button.  Keeps other hands off, and teaches proper grip and hand placement.  I have an uncle Mike's Nylon IWB holster to practice with until I can get enough $$ together for a Crossbreed Holster (Leather and Kydex).  The other one, that is made here in Houston, is the Kangaroo Carry, cotton.  http://www.kangaroocarry.com  Be prepared for any type of dress, weather, or firearm size.

IMO the different levels of retention holsters are duty holsters. The IWB , OWB type are usually not retention. The plastic and Kydex either have a retention screw or a certain snap function that gives pretty good security for the weapon.
Personally Im not payin 90.00 for a holster that I can buy for 25.00, be it leather or plastic.
