Olympic arms opinions?

First off I know that you get what you pay for.  I am looking for a cheap AR.  Don't string me up please!  I am not  a real big fan of the setup however, I have this overwhealming urge to jump on the band wagon due to availability of parts and ammo.  I have "heard rumor of a gun ban"  and imports are always an issue.  So if anyone has any ideas please let me know.

I have a plinker plus with only about seven hundred rounds.  No hickup with it.  I used it for coyote hunting with no problems, but if I were to do it again I'd get a flat top

I was thinking of getting a second AR because of the potential ban but I'm going to wait for the Masada/ACR to come out this year because I've seen video where they just changed the barrel out from a 5.56 to the 7.62 with little or no effort.

A freind of mine has an Olympic with a detachable "Carry handle", He loves it, but it HATES Wolf ammo. I think he paid $800 about 3 years ago.

Yeah seems like Olympic Arms are the cheapest ones. Most people like them rather well it seems. For just a little more $ you might be able to get a Bushmaste, Stag Arms, or a DPMS.//////// Rock Rivers, Smith & Wesson M&Ps, and Colts are going to be even more.. I have a Bushmaster and it works perfectly. If you really look around you can sometimes find them in the $700 price range vs. $600-$700 for the Olympic's..  But, I've never shot an Olympic ..so I dunno for sure about them..  maybe that helps some? ..

I don't really know.  It wasn't on an Outdoor network show video (Jim Scouten or Michael would have asked), it was on Discovery Channel's "future weapon" and the host didn't ask and the factory rep didn't explain that.

I own a S&W M&P15 that I traded a civvy Colt M4 for(the one with the factory installed muzzle brake).What a great rifle!I got the good side of that deal and don't get yelled at that my AR is louder than everyone else's!
I sold a ton of different manufacturers rifles as the L.E. specialist at a local retailer,and quite a few agencies like DPMS and ArmaLite if budget limits are a problem as they are pretty cost effective.Also,don't be afraid to try used-I bought an older Eagle Arms A2 and even after sending it to the gunsmith for a couple original owner repairs still came out under $700.00!

I have several Olympic Arms 16 inch CARs, a heavy barrel 20 inch and an ultra Match.. the last two are sub MOA rifles. They have been flawless in operation. Their pistol caliber conversions work flawlessly even with lead bullet reloads. The 5.56 weapons use almost any magazine out there, including the Chinese 120 rd drum and MWG 90 rd drums.

I have not experienced any of the negative issues that (apparently) some others have..

I have a pre-ban Olympic lower I bought as a kit. Colt H bar upper, and it has worked flawlessly for a long time. Olympic also has a lifetime warranty. I own colt, dpms, Olympic and have no complaints for any of them. I've been going dpms a lot due to the low cost of the uppers and lowers for building. I like the pro series flat top uppers for the extra meat around the bolt carrier for stiffness. Cons are no forward assist or dust shield. The hot deal around here ( Dallas Texas ) has been rock river, a collapsible stock 16", A3 with a hard case and 2 mags out the door for 695.00  If you look at ar15dotcom, in the equipment exchange, a vender called ROSECO, is the guy selling these at the local gunshows. He also is a stocking parts dealer for Wilson Combat. The only brands I stay away from always are nessards, and essential arms.  I would try a stag, rr, compass lake, sun devil, bushmaster, S&W or Fulton armory, but do not have any personal experience with them, just friends who are happy with them. I recently built a complete upper minus bolt carrier for a friend with all model one sales parts, it works well and he reports shoots well.
