Birthday fun with my son at the range
« on: May 22, 2011, 07:24:56 PM »
My eldest turned 14 today.  After church and a quick brunch, we packed up the truck and headed to the range with one of his friends.

Spent a good chunk of time shooting the dueling tree with .22 pistols and then transitioned to .22 rifles.  They got a kick out of me testing my fixes to the Saiga 12 (finally -- got it running reliably!  Also, who knew that you could clear an entire side on a dueling tree with 2 shots from a shotgun?) and then we went over to the trap range.

They spent a bunch of shells knocking clays out of the sky.  My son definitely cashed in his birthday-karma as he ran 22 of 25 birds....good boy!

Unusual for Michigan this time of year, we had sunny skies and 85 deg weather.  Sunburned and tired, we grabbed a pop at the convenience store (never go shooting without getting a pop afterwards...Rich family rule) and headed home.

Ended the day with him asking for Chinese takeout, getting an iTouch and a bunch of iTunes gift cards.  Good day.

Thanks guys.   A few other points -- the range was busy yesterday wtih the local 4H club out shooting archery and Jr. Rifle.  Great to see   Also I had a blast busting clays with my Saiga 12...I didn't expect to be able to hit anything with it's cylinder bore choke but I busted them just fine...doubles too.   Got a few looks (scowls?) from the old timers looking on.

Probably the best part of the day was when my son, flush with pride at being in "the zone", asked if he could come out and shoot with me at Monday night trap league.
