FINALLY made up my mind!

Been reading all the forums, tech. data, reviews, and youtube vids I can find on airguns.  Looks as though the "Nitro piston" guns are the direction everyone is slowly turning.  Supposed to be quiter, more consistant shooting regardless of temperatures, require little to no break in, and have a longer service life over all than spring guns. 

Most people agree .177 cal. is like pokeing an animal with a pin, .25 cal. aren't much for flat shooting, and have limited pellet selection, so .22 cal. it is.

Living close enough to the ocean that the salt air and ESPECIALLY the rain can be an issue, and just not liking the look of wood, a synthetic stock is a must.

Cool toy! A range report is mandatory. I'd also like a review on noise. Not from the shooters POV obviously, but from someone say 20 yards downrange (the next yard over). Have fun.

I'll have to look at this "Nitro Piston" technology.    Looks cool.  Hope it shoots good.

My range book is down stairs, but I think my HW77 only does around 750fps.  Which even at 20yds totally penetrates squirrels and rats.   At 1,000fps you'll have to be extremely careful of your backstop. 

You may want to get a pellet sampler from Straight Shooters to find the most accurate pellet.  I supplemented their selection with a few more I wanted to try and finally ended up using either Beemen FTS or H&N Match.   But there are so many others and new ones out now.  I may need to do some new experiments.

Ditto on the backstop issue. My RWS does around 800 and I learned thar 5/8 inch ply wood was NOT adequate.  :-[ I use either a pellet trap or a couple of layers of shag rug remnants draped over a dowell. Both work fine. Also, don't look down your nose at cheap pellets. Airguns are finicky. Mine likes RWS pellets best, but el cheapo crossman sharp points work, while it hates Beeman's and crossman HPs. Its just a luck of the draw thing. But the pellets the guy used in the vid that gave a dime sized group at 20 yards seem a good starting point.

At the range we always had a name for gold triggers on guns...    What rymes with trigger and likes a lot of bling?

Did you order directly from Crosman or from a retailer?

It's been a while since I visited any of the AirGun Forums.   I do seem to remember some plus and minus's about Charlie.  Break it in first.

Maybe I should bring my HW-77 and drop by when on vacation.

Gas "springs" aren't new.  Weihrach and Theoben have offered them for some time.   I guess they're really catching on lately.  That's what I get for staying away from "the yellow" forum for so long.

I might just have to get one.  I can get a gas spring replacement for the HW-77, but I didn't figure it was that advantageous.

I do most of my shooting on the old military bombing range.  You can set up any targets you want, at any range (I mean ANY!), it's free, and 10 minutes from my house.     I've played around over 1,200 yards there with my .308's.   

It's killing me that I didn't buy an RWS 34 .22 magnum, but the biggest advantage of the gas piston is it's (from the youtube video's I've seen) SUPER quite.  And the RWS magnum (again, from what I've seen on youtube) will rattle windows compared to a gas gun. 

This thing's all about STEALTH for me.
