Quote
Republican lawmakers and gun rights advocates testified yesterday that a series of gun control measures promoted by Democrats — requiring imprinted serial numbers on firearms, “microstamped’’ bullets, and annual limits on gun purchases — would punish lawful gun owners, increase costs, and hamper a 5,000-job industry.

“In order to try and curb and curtail the violence, we’re penalizing those that are not the culprits,’’ said state Representative Daniel Webster, a Pembroke Republican. “I would suggest to you that in the vast majority of cases, people that are misusing guns are doing it when they don’t have licenses to carry.’’

Critics of stricter controls on gun ownership and purchasing blamed black market transactions, Mexican drug cartels, and even the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives for enabling criminals to access guns without licenses, and they argued that any additional oversight could put gun ownership out of reach for lawful citizens.

Opponents of microstamping legislation, which would require gun manufacturers to etch serial numbers into firearms and introduce technology in which fired bullets would be “microstamped’’ with a matching number, argued that it would be easily thwarted by criminals and would add to the cost of guns.

StateRepresentative Paul Adams, an Andover Republican, said “household tools’’ could be used to file down serial numbers on guns, and in many cases, gun crimes would not be solved by microstamping.

State Representative David Linsky, a Natick Democrat, the sponsor of microstamping legislation, countered that the measure is a “common-sense law enforcement assistance bill.’’

He argued it would add $7 per firearm in startup costs but would become less costly as companies adopted the technology.

Lawmakers also heard fierce opposition to a bill that would restrict gun purchases to 15 per year.

“This bill would shut down licensed gun dealers in the state of Massachusetts,’’ argued Jim Wallace, executive director of the Gun Owners’ Action League.

Nancy Robison, executive director of Citizens for Safety, countered that supporting restrictions on gun ownership is not tantamount to abridging Second Amendment rights.

I love waking up every morning knowing that Donald Trump is President!!

Really? Common Sense?

"Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual." --Thomas Jefferson

Nothing new, same old uber-lib gun-grabbing crap. It will never stop unless they all die off. But do remember, like-minded liberal azzholes control our schools, and thus have bred a whole new generation of uber-lib gun-grabber azzholes. It is why we must always stay vigilant, and teach our children well so they are not sucked into the lies.

FTA :
"and they argued that any additional oversight could put gun ownership out of reach for lawful citizens."

That's the whole point.  DUH.

I am pleased to note the absence of "Wild west" references, no where in the article did I see the phrases "the streets will run with blood" or "it's for the children".

That will be in part 2 of the report ::)

"..shut down licensed gun dealers in the state of Massachusetts..."
Isn't that the point? Isn't that what "the people" of Massachusetts have been voting for, for the last 100 years? People in the northeastern US have exactly the government that they have chosen for a long time. Why is anyone surprised by any of this?

??? I knew the northeast was lost when I read on this forum that someone was happy about getting a "permit" to buy a gun.
I seem to be the only person to considers this to be a personal affront to all of MY liberties. Until more people take it personally, those who would limit liberty will continue to hold power.

CJ, quit damning the "North East " based on Ma. and NY.
Me., NH, and Vt. have less restrictive gun laws than Texas.
For example, we can open carry any where we want, including the State house, with out any kind of permit, NH and Me had CCW decades before Fl made it popular, and the only non Govt place I have ever seen a "No guns" sign was, oddly enough, at a gun show venue.
I can also carry a switch blade or sword legally, get automatic weapons or suppressors with only federal rules, and shoot off fire works.
And we don't have Rattle snakes scorpions, or tornado's.  ;D

CJ, please don't lump the entire state of NY with the voting block of nycity, up state is very pro gun, but we don't have the numbers to outvote nycity and albany county. We re trying to change things but it will be a slow ,long battle.

CJ, someone can be glad and happy they managed to jump through the hoops to get a permit to legally be armed to defend themselves and their family while still being extremely POed about the government violating their rights by making them do so.
