He appears to have been using two separate holsters: A 5.11 Thumb Drive and also a SERPA. Switching holsters would not have caused the discharge if he had been following proper technique with the trigger finger.

That is exactly how he described what happened when he took personal blame for the incident.

Which is about the only thing I give him credit for..........after playing the video, he kinda didn't have much choice but to own up to being negligent.

**Side note: In 30 years of gun handling, I have had one negligent discharge myself (20 years ago). A round failed to extract from the chamber of a hunting rifle after the case rim cracked under the extractor claw (rare) but it was completely my fault for not checking the chamber with my eyes and finger before releasing the firing pin.

I use a SERPA almost exclusively for IDPA and USPSA and can see it happening if you really don't understand how it works.  It's part of the reason a lot of local clubs won't allow SERPAs for matches, to many knuckleheads that haven't practiced with it. (or practice WRONG)
There is VERY little need to curl the finger to release the pistol.  If you do, you're ASKING for trouble.  Keep it straight and when the weapon releases you're on the frame, not the trigger, at least with the two I have (Glock/1911).
When seconds mean the difference between life and death, the police will be minutes away.

You are either SOLVING the problem, or you ARE the problem.

Booger hook, got on the bang switch wee bit to early in the draw.... "curled"?

SERPA and a 1911? Seems like a tricky set up, I can see a striker fired type pistol working much better with an "indexing" holster...

but not a 1911, super tweaked up Kimber, mall ninja approved pistol...

Lucky it didn't exit out his foot....

He does get credit for the man up,......bet he puts the 1911 in another holster....

He did manup about the shooting, I have never seen him before. The 1st thing that I noticed was the draw looked terrible, not sure if its the camera angle, looks like the muzzle never started to go horizontal and the elbow was way up in the air. Hard to say. Gee I think you would tell the hammer safety from the retention release. BUT SH*T happens.

From my own personal CCW files, my 1911 carries the same in a SERPA as my G27....that is to say, on the draw stroke, the go-finger rides the frame as the gun comes up and out. YMMV.
