Boston police dealt with another night of violence Thursday night, responding to a fatal shooting in
Dorchester as well as another shooting in
Roxbury, and becoming involved in a bizarre pursuit of a suspect that ended with his apprehension after he dove into the Mystic River, police said.
Boston Police Captain Jack Danilecki said the Dorchester victim, who was in his 20s but was not known to police, was shot several times at about 11:35 p.m. on Thursday near the corner of Mascot Street and Mountain Avenue.
Danilecki said the victim was taken to Boston Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. He said police had no leads on suspects as of early this morning.
Danilecki also said that another man in his 20s, who is known to police, was shot three times Thursday night on Lenox Street in Roxbury. He said that victim was in critical condition early this morning at Boston Medical Center, but is expected to survive.
He said the Roxbury shooting apparently occurred when a gunman stepped out of the backseat of a car and opened fire. He added that police have solid leads in that case.
Separately, Danilecki also said a man spotted in Charlestown Thursday night, who was wanted on a breaking and entering warrant, tried to flee from officers by diving into the Mystic River and attempting to swim to Everett. Danilecki said the suspect was taken into custody.
