Franken-Izzy FAL coming along
« on: July 20, 2011, 09:55:16 PM »
Well, it isn't done but I'm starting to put the parts together to see what she looks like.  I reported a month ago or so that I have had a hankerin' for an Israeli "carbine" for a while and found the opportunity with a decent deal on a DSA StG58 carbine.  While the barrel was shorter than I wanted, it at least got the ball rolling.

Here's what I've done so far:

- Izzy wood furniture from SARCO
- Buttplate, scope mount, extended safety, mag release, bolt release, SAW grip from DSA
- Rear swivel, barrel spacers, Izzy bolt carrier from gun things.com

What she used to look like (middle one)

What she looks like now

Here is what I have left to do

- Replace the barrel with an 18" one ( may be a while until I build up funds)
- Modify the heavy barrel front hand guard liner to fit the metric barrel ferrule
- buy, replace the charging handle with an Izzy forward assist one

That said, I'm liking the way it looks!

16"  That's what my Para has on it and I wanted the Izzy to be an 18".  No good reason other than that's what I want.
