So how does that compare with the Model T's and Stanley Steamer I see on the road around here ?
I've wanted a picture of that Stanley for 6 years now but he never drives it when I have my camera handy.

FQ is right here. The old cars were solid and simple durable enough but road salt raised hell with them.
Modern cars however are far more fuel efficient, far more powerful for the same size engine, more user friendly and guaranteed for up to 10 years or 100,000 miles. New materials and processes make them pretty much impervious to salt and other environmental threats, and if you take into account inflation the cost is actually less to buy a new car today than 60 years ago..

actually tom, the small cars from the 80s got better milage then even hybrids of today/.  a big part of that is the increased safety of new cars( read that as in creased weight)

still give me points and a carb and i'm happy.  I can fix any spark of fuel prob in a matter of mins with just a screw driver and cheap parts.  try doing that with a new car.
I always break all the clay pigeons,  some times its even with lead.

I'll take the HEI and carb instead, thank you   :)     My 69 El Camino has that and yes, even I can work on it    IF I want to. It's a lot of fun to drive, although it's been in the garage, untouched for the last seven years. If I'd put a new battery and some fuel in it, it would fire right up.
The 2000 Impala is a hunk of junk and I gladly passed it on to the old man in favor of my 07 Envoy. The gmc gets better gas mileage and is way more comfortable than all the others!  I like the new one better so far....

El Camino's and Ranchero's are a lot more common on the West Coast than they are here, although, like Karmen Ghia's, you do see one now and then.
Even a guy with an "Amphi car" in the area.
But over the years the road salt raised hell with them.

I tuned up my BILs '69 Impala a few weeks ago, straight six....took about twenty minutes!

Would have taken less but he was standing over my shoulder getting in the way!  Damn musicians..... ;)
