My primary use is competition and most shots are short.  The shorter length barrel works better when you are moving around in a course of fire.  I haven't checked to see if Mossberg makes a 18" replacement that will allow chokes.  I do need to be able to mix bird shot, buck and slug on a course of fire.  The CoF I had problems on required bird shot and slugs.
My bad. I thought you were looking for a GP shotgun that would do SD and hunting/skeet etc.

WatchmanUSA...would suggest a light modified choke tube if you get it threaded for practical shotgun competition...was recommended to me by Kurt Miller, and have about 5 3gun seasons on mine, without any need of change...since we shoot them like rifles anyway, a flip up 10/22 sight and HighViz Flashpoint triangular fiber optic tube makes a good slug combo...

Thanks for the suggestion.  The Mossberg SPX has a LPA ghost ring rear with a LPA red fiber front sight.  I like it - highly visible & easy to pick up on targets.

If the weather holds there is another DMG match this weekend.
