Becoming a firearms instructor

Mr. Bane,

I was wondering if you'd be interested in discussing becoming a firearms instructor on the podcast.  I'm not talking mall ninja-esque hanging upside down on a zip line going backward while firing kind of trainers; rather, you average run-of-the-mill instructor that teaches a CCW class every month or two.

There are several of us on here that are firearms instructors.  Some do carry classes, some offer classes in other areas of shooting.  Some do other areas of self defense (where guns can't be used), and some offer classes to avoid the need of self defense all together.

Where are you from?  While this is a great topic to discuss on the forum, if we knew where you are there are many instructors that could help you directly.

That is what I was addressing.  Becoming an instructor is different in different states.  I recommend finding a mentor, and he might find one in this group to work with.

I too, would love to become an instructor.  Every time I take friends to the range and "teach" them how to shoot, I always get the same comments.  "Your really good at this, you should become an instructor."

I have lots of questions.  Like do you have to be NRA certified.  Can you rent local ranges for classes?  Most have their own instructors and I wouldn't think they would appreciate you running your own.

Rangemaster here in Memphis, only offers one instructor class a year.  With my work schedule, I can't take it.  How in the world are you supposed to get certified to teach if you can only go to one class?

Would love to hear Mr. Banes, opinon on the matter.
