I've been planning this move for several years.  Today was that first taste of the drug  ;D

Rifle, shotgun, leather, clothes, cart, and then the expendables.

Clubs here are pretty loose, so the clothing is down on the list, but then again that is the cheap area.

I need to make a call and check on dies - I am part owner of a Dillon 650 that I haven't seen in a couple years.  I'm low on other rounds, so would be a good time to get that home and crank it up.

Like I said - this was my first match ... ever!  But it was fun.

It was a small local club match, and we shot it indoors at the range where I shoot bullseye and light rifle.  During our three day summers up here there are matches in Jackson, Redwood Falls and New Ulm, MN.  Anywhere from 25 to 45 miles from where I live.  There are more, but those are the closest and where the folks I know shoot.

Don't have an alias yet, but for the last few years have been kicking around Hezekiah Beckum.  It was available in both SASS and Cowboy Fast Draw the last time I looked.

I have decided I'm going to shoot .38 rather than the man's caliber of .45.  I decided that if I don't need to go big I'm not going to.  I have a pair of Ruger New Vaqueros in .357.  I also have a Ruger New Vaquero in .45LC and a Baretta Stampede in .45LC.

I shot my Rugers with factory .38 spl, and I shot three rifles - A Marlin 1892, a Uberti Lightning and a Uberti 1894.  My plans for purchases are either a 1866 or 1873, and a Stoeger Coach Gun.

How did I shoot?  I had fun!  My times were right in the middle of the pack.  The guy that invited me and let me use the Lighting took it away from me, and he told me I could come back when I bought my own gun.  Then he grumbled something about beating his times  ;)  I surprised them and had to assure them that this was my first time, but I also told them trigger time is trigger time.  I don't have leather, and no one there had a holster my size, so my revolvers were staged on the table and I didn't draw from the holsters.

What's the difference between USPSA, IDPA and SASS?  Not a lot!  One thing I had to explain to them that only a couple had ever seen before was my walk through.  I didn't actually walk through, but after I verified the course of fire I would point at the targets on pace to get it in my mind.  Every USPSA match I shoot most shooters actually walk the course of fire to get it right.

Did I say it was fun  ;D

Very very cool.   I haven't been bit by the SASS bug, but who knows.

Shooting is shooting.   A bad day on the range beats a good day at work.

Alf,

Like I said and you pointed out - Shooting is shooting and any day shooting is a good day.  There are games out there for anyone that wants to play a game, and not every game is for everyone.  Sometimes a game might even be right, but the local club isn't.

My two complaints with everything shooting is that since we live in a drive past area of fly over country shooting ranges are way to far apart, and getting enough people together to play games is tough.  The other complaint is what our government has done to the pricing of guns and ammunition  >:(

M-58,I would recommend a 73, they're easier to take a part and have the safety on the lever so you don't have to worry about the gun firing out of battery. As far as Shotguns the stoeger is a good choice, Check out Goatneck Clem for one that's already slickd up. I have one and it's just about perfect out of the box.

Plans are Jackson, MN, New Ulm, MN and Morristown, MN

Just got it - Coffin Filler Mike

Gentleman don't shoot and tell ... Oh yea, that is something about kissing ... my lips are still sealed  ;)

I am going .38spl (I know, I'm a wimp) - I have a pair of Ruger New Vaquaros, I am dealing on a Stoeger 12 ga Coach gun, and I really want an 1873, but they are like hen's teeth in .357.  I can find Marlin 1894's, and have shot a couple.  The price is better, but the first time I shot one the bolt bit me.

I have picked up primers, more brass (.38spl is not something I have been reloading), and talking to the guys here for guidance on lead and powder.  Need some new wads so I can down load my 12 ga.  And, I need to get all the presses set up.

Biggest issue, besides cash, is we are in the middle of a redecorate project - Scraping texture off the ceiling, painting and new flooring in family room/business office/reloading room.  Must make wife happy first, then reloading can be set back up.

Spring is coming  ;D  Must hurry  ;D
