It has been pointed out that I "forgot" to introduce myself.  ;D  Oops!

My name is Scott and I live in Southern NH.  I'm not from there originally.  I come from a military family and have lived everywhere Navy from Adak to the PI to Eglin.  I'm a professional instructor training PSD personnel for those who actually need a PSD.  In other words, no celebrity or status symbol details.  I began the work while I was in the Navy and continued on in the private sector for over 20 years before transitioning to teaching.

If you have read many of my posts you'll realize that I tend to have very strong opinions. You'll also notice that RJP and I tend to disagree on most things.  Let me make this part clear;  I absolutely respect him as an industry professional.  We just disagree on some things and that is OK.  Properly applied conflict initiates thought, development and growth.  Although I suspect RJP thinks I'm a bit harsh at times.

I own more firearms than I can recall for professional reasons.  I find that using and, demonstrating with, what the students have in their hands to be very beneficial.  I strongly believe that, as an instructor, one must be able to successfully do whatever is being asked of the students.  The people I work with would see it as a weakness and I would lose credibility if I did less than what I demanded from them.  Besides, the mechanics of shooting don't really care what make, model or caliber is in your hands.  As long as it fits properly you are GTG.

I just switched from carrying a Nighthawk Talon to a G21 with a grip modification.  I prefer the .45 only because of conveneince.  It's what I have the most of.  Otherwise I don't really give a lot of thought to caliber as long as it is 9mm or larger.  Shot placement matters.  I always carry a bug because mechanical devices are prone to fail.  I also carry 2 knives, 2 flashlights and a small first aid kit.  It's not paranoid, it's prepared.

Thanks,
Scott

After a 100+ posts, it might be awkward to say 'welcome', Scott....but welcome anyway.

I feel like you have added greatly to the capacity of the forum with some of your though-provoking opinions and questions.
IMHO, if someone makes others truly think about what they are doing and how they think, and are genuine in their ways, then I feel they should always be welcome here.

Thanks,

Scott,

Welcome aboard!  I've enjoyed your provocative posts and look forward to more of the same.

It's refreshing to see a post from a professional who's not trying to sell me something.  Keep it up and thanks for your service.

Welcome Scott,

It is always refreshing to keep posts coming "from outside the envelope"... With all the diversity in firearms, and caliber, no one method will work for every circumstance. Variables keep things interesting, and hopefully allow us all to find a better way to improve shooting skills and tactics.

Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."

I carry two identical knives.

They are the Gerber, folding blade Applegate Fairbairn fighting knife.

Hi, my name is Eric.  I'm in Central Arkansas, north of Little Rock and found out about the forum from the Downrange podcast.  I am on a 60 acre farm and have just begun setting up my range.  I can get about 450 yards from the back yard.  It should be fun!  I'm shooting an AR I built with a Compass Lake barrel and an M1A.  Looking forward to the forum.

Thanks
