ICE Agent Shot Dead at California Federal Building

A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent is dead after a workplace dispute erupted into gunfire at the agency’s offices in a California federal building, officials said.

In the incident at the Glenn M. Anderson Federal Building in Long Beach, Calif., an ICE agent allegedly opened fire on a colleague Thursday evening, leaving that colleague hospitalized in stable condition with multiple gunshot wounds, ICE officials told ABC News.

“This situation began with what we can characterize as an incident of workplace violence,” Steven Martinez, assistant director in charge of the FBI’s Los Angeles office, told reporters late Thursday Pacific Time.

However, a third ICE agent evidently intervened by firing at the initial shooter, Martinez said.

“This resulted in the death of the shooter,” Martinez said. “At this time, we believe this was an isolated incident and the shooter was acting alone.”

The intervening ICE agent was unharmed, officials said.

Initially, multiple published reports citing Long Beach police described two agents dead and a third wounded, but those reports were mistaken, ICE officials told ABC News.

The incident occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m. PT inside the ICE offices, according to a written statement by ICE, which added that the victims were with ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations unit.

“One of the agents died at the scene,” the statement said. “The second agent was transported to a local hospital where he is listed in stable condition. The names of the agents are not being released pending notification of the next of kin.”

The FBI is leading the investigation, with assistance from the Long Beach Police Department, Long Beach Deputy Chief Robert Luna told reporters.

Police learned that shots had been fired at the federal building via a 911 call at approximately 5:54 p.m., Luna said.

“Officers were on scene within two minutes and quickly secured the scene,” Luna added.

Television aerial footage appeared to show the live victim being transported under police escort from the federal building.

“At times like this, words honestly seem inadequate,” said Claude Arnold, special agent in charge of ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations in Los Angeles.

We are like a family,” Arnold said. “When something like this happens, it affects us all.”

Yep, just like a family,
some of the cousins should be kept in the cellar.

Just got back from LA tonight, this was on the news this morning with little details.  The over riding story on the news down there was a mother that tried to drown her two you children and how she was denied mental health treatment because she's an illegal immigrant from Guatemala.  I'll be back down there Monday and will report if the details make it on the local news, I'm not holding my breath... ::)

This reminds me of a conversation I had with our local Chief of Police after "Shall-Issue" became the law in this state last year.  He is dead-set against it.

As he put it, "There are people in this town who I just don't feel comfortable having them carry a gun, but I can't put my finger on why."

I replied, "There are people on YOUR DEPARTMENT that I don't feel comfortable having them carry a gun, a I CAN put my finger on why."  I continued, "I agree with the legislature......if you're going to deprive somebody of their Constitutional Rights, you damn well BETTER be able to put your finger on the reason!"

We have agreed to disagree.
I love waking up every morning knowing that Donald Trump is President!!

Police sergeant found dead in car after allegedly shooting Beverly police officer

BEVERLY -- A Hamilton police sergeant was found dead inside his car tonight, hours after he allegedly shot and seriously injured a Beverly police officer earlier in the evening, sparking a late night police search for the suspect, officials said.

Police responded to the Starbucks at 29 Enon St., Beverly, around 5:48 p.m. where they found Beverly police officer Jason Lantych shot and in serious condition, Essex district attorney Jonathan W. Blodgett said at a press conference.

Lantych was taken to Beverly Hospital where he was undergoing surgery for “very serious injuries,” Blodgett said.

After the shooting, police began searching for Hamilton police sergeant Ken Nagy, who they believe shot Lantych. Blodgett said Nagy was off duty at the time.

Blodgett did not describe the circumstances that brought the two men together tonight. But he said “we believe they knew each other.”

A few hours later, Nagy was found dead in his black 2008 Saab SUV which was parked in the Starbucks parking lot, said Carrie Kimball-Monahan, spokeswoman for the Essex district attorney.

Before his body was discovered, the district attorney described Nagy as “armed and dangerous.”

The Beverly Police Department website lists Lantych as a patrol officer

According to a July 3 article from the Hamilton-Wenham Chronicle’s website, Nagy was promoted to the rank of sergeant last summer after 19 years on the force. The Chronicle said Nagy’s wife, Katie, pinned her husband’s sergeant badge onto his uniform in a ceremony on July 1 while his two sons looked on.

A call to Nagy’s wife was not immediately returned. Relatives reached by telephone last night would not comment.

They sell biscotti and scones, the occasional muffin or cupcake and other pastries.
