Prayer for local family of fallen Marine
« on: May 31, 2012, 05:05:26 PM »
Prayers go out and are requested for the family members of a local area Marine killed in action in Afghanistan.

LCpl. Steve Sutton, USMC, is a close relative of a wonderful lady in my church congregation. Steve was 'short' in his deployment and was getting close to returning home when he was killed in combat.

ALBANY, GA -
Dozens of well-wishers have gathered in Lee County, as Steve Sutton's funeral gets underway about 2:00PM.

The Lee County Marine known as Big Steve was killed in an IED blast in Afghanistan a week and a half ago.

The VFW Post is joining the people who are gathering, as are the ROTC elements from Lee County High and Monroe High. They have erected almost 900 American flags, which line the route to the cemetery.

Following the service, the funeral procession will travel from the church through downtown Leesburg then south on Highway 19.

The public is invited to bring American flags and line the route starting at the McDonald's in Leesburg all the way down U.S. 19 to 3rd Avenue in Albany, then west to Dawson Road, and north to Crown Hill Cemetery where Sutton will be laid to rest.

Highway 32 from the church to Lover's Lane Road will be closed to through traffic until after the funeral.

Last night was a chance for the community to express their sympathy to the family. People who knew him and many who didn't gathered at Kimbrell Stern Funeral Home for a public visitation.

That included this group of motorcyclists. Some of them are Patriot Guard Riders who are escorting the funeral procession today.

WALB will have coverage of the procession on our website, and will recap the events in our evening news.

Rest In Peace, Marine.
